I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mismanagement, lack of supervision, lack of safety and security, lack of dying hospice procedures for mixed roommates. Lack of \"shared\" bathrooms in these 3 houses for the number of residents. Men & women share. No safe showers. No separation of serious \"Memory/Behavior\" patients from others = Chaos. Stealing common. No front desk or person at any of the 3 houses. Visitors roam in and out freely. No safe groomed grounds for walking. Staff and residents freely smoke, including \"vaping\", too close to dining, parlor, small living areas.

We put a deposit down at Cottonwood Village. We're on hold right now, but we really enjoyed Cottonwood Village. I highly recommend them. The staff was incredible, and the residents were really nice. Even though we went at a time of masks, which they still do, but they pride themselves. They only had a limited amount of Covid cases, but they were quite honest with us about it. We left a deposit because we can't go right now, but there's a right to refuse if one comes open type of thing. We're looking at a 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment for my mom there, but it's going to be in assisted living. You can go from independent into assisted living, and you don't have to change places. The sales director was phenomenal. They showed us a studio apartment and you make it what it is you want. It's all one big building and it's three stories. We took a tour of a studio apartment and it was empty, then we took a tour of a 1-bedroom apartment and my mom preferred that. The sales director mentioned most of the people on these floors are assisted living, but you can start out as independent living and you can transfer to assisted living based on what your needs are, but you don't have to physically move. We did not experience any food or meals, but they offer that there and the residents that we met there that welcomed my mom said the food is delicious. They have an activities coordinator and they were actually making brownies when we got there. The place was very clean.

Cottonwood Village seems fine all the way around. They have a normal dining services, and selections if you don't like what's on the menu that day. They have an activities calendar with different activities going on all day. They have full service care, and a locked dementia care unit. They're definitely more expensive than other places, but they are also more appropriate, so you're getting what you pay for. They also play bingo, bridge, they go on outings, they have pet therapy, and a singer comes in every week. They're the best option in this area. It's a nice place, there is no odor, and everything is kept up and clean.

Carefree Assisted Living Center is a small community and it is very personal. They do a very good job of taking care of my mother. They have activities six days a week, and their price is very reasonable.

My father-in-law has moved into Carefree Assisted Living Center. He is in a double room, which is a little cramped. However, the layout of the community is very nice, and the location is convenient. The general appearance and the cleanliness of it have been very good. It is very pleasant and it always smells clean. They have a garden area in the middle so that the patients can see the outdoors. They can go on the patio too and get some fresh air. It is something my father-in-law has enjoyed. He also likes the simpler physical activities because he is in a wheelchair. The food smells good. It is also healthy, well-prepared, and there's a good variety. The staff members are always helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable. They're able to answer my questions. I like all of them. They are very dedicated and they seem to be there long-term. They don't change the staff frequently, which is something I haven't seen in other places.

Cottonwood Village seemed like a pleasant and well-run community. The clients looked happy and engaged, and not just sitting in the hall. The person who accommodated me was very helpful and informative. She did a thorough job of showing us the place. I didn't see any activities because it was lunch time and people were getting ready to eat. The dining area was very nice and it had a pleasant atmosphere. The facilities were acceptable.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Cottonwood Village was horrible. We lived there for two months and moved out. My husband got pneumonia the eighth day we were there, then had a heart attack while he was recovering in the hospital, and I had back surgery. All this happened within two months. The carpeting in the dining room hadn't been cleaned in two years. They have 160 some rooms and a lot of people go to the dining room. We had two meals a day, and the food was awful. My husband took a bite of it and had to spit it out it was so bad. I would not recommend that. I think the State ought to close it; that's my recommendation. We had a two-bedroom, a shower, and a very tiny kitchen. I had a sink put in because the sink was about 10 inches square and wasn't big enough for me to even wash dishes. The refrigerator was probably 40 years old. There's no padding underneath the carpeting, and they left lumps where they had cut it off, so there were a few lumps on the floor when you walk across it. There was no care. I wouldn't put my worst enemy in that place. I had housekeeping every two weeks and whoever cleaned it turned the air-conditioning on really high and left it on and did not lock the door when they left. There was nothing right about that place. It was dirty. They vacuum the hallways, but they never vacuum next to the wall, so there's a one-inch strip of dirt and dust. When you visit it, it's very nice, but when you move in, it's not nice at all.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My sister lives in town and so I am kept up-to-date on our mother's new living arrangements. Both my mother and sister express how kind and helpful everyone is which makes me feel so much better. It is hard enough to mentally deal with the fact that you are unable to keep the woman who was always there for you safe, so it is a great relief to find such a wonderful, joyous home!!!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother passed in January of this year and I needed to find a place for Dad, as needed some assistance for his daily life, that, due to health problems of his own, I am not able to provide. I found several referral agencies on line and reached out to them for help in finding him a place. I was doing this all long distance, as I was in West Virginia taking care of Dad, and wanted to bring to Arizona to be closed to myself and my wife, as he has no other living relatives other than possibly a long-lost cousin or two. Caring.com provided the referral to Country Care and I found both Mike and Lou to be very personable, knowledgeable and eager to help. My wife was able to go to Cottonwood for a tour as we live close. She was favorably impressed so we decided to move Dad in. At least if this home was not the right fit, we would have Dad in Arizona so finding another place would be easier to do. In the six months that Dad has been there, we have found that we do, in fact, have a very good fit for him. I am retired, so can go see Dad several times each week, and have never had any indication of anything but him getting excellent care. In fact, his only complaint is that they feed him too much. This is funny coming from him because he is such a picky eater, but they seem able to adjust to things like this much better than bigger, institutional places would be able to do. In short, we are very happy with the choice we made, and it helps that the cost is competitive with other facilities that we looked at.
