More than 1.6 million Arizonans are enrolled in the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the state’s Medicaid program. This government-run program provides health care coverage to the state’s low-income residents, including children, seniors and people with disabilities.
The AHCCCS provides coverage for many necessary medical services through health plans. Participants choose a health plan that serves their ZIP code, and they may receive coverage for the following services:
- Doctor visits
- Specialist care
- Hospital services
- Emergency care
- Dialysis
- Emergency dental services
- Surgery services
In Arizona, Medicaid may also provide long-term care services through the Arizona Long Term Care System. Some of these services include assisted living, nursing home care, personal attendants, home health services and home-delivered meals.
Qualifying for Medicaid Seniors who live in Arizona
may be eligible for regular Medicaid coverage if they earn less than $1,041 per month ($1,409 for couples). There’s no asset limit, and seniors don’t need to require a certain level of medical care.
To qualify for long-term care coverage, seniors must require a nursing home level of care. Additionally, the program has
income and asset limits. Single seniors may be eligible if they earn less than $2,313 per month and own less than $2,000 in assets. Married couples who are both applying for ALTCS can each earn up to $2,313 per month, and each spouse can have assets of up to $2,000. When only one spouse is applying for coverage, the non-applicant can have up to $126,420 in assets.
