Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Payson

Medicaid in Arizona

The Medicaid program in Arizona is called the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. The AHCCCS provides health insurance for low-income residents of Arizona, including senior citizens and disabled individuals. Some of the covered services include doctor visits, dental care, hospital services, prescription medications and laboratory tests.

According to the financial eligibility guidelines for AHCCCS coverage, individual applicants are allowed a maximum income of $1,041 per month, while married couples applying together may have a maximum of $1,409. There are no asset limits for Medicaid coverage in Arizona. 

Seniors in the Payson area can apply for AHCCCS coverage by calling (800) 564-5465. 

Older individuals who require assistance with the cost of long-term care may qualify for coverage under the Arizona Long Term Care System. This program operates separately from AHCCCS and covers the cost of long-term care services including assisted living and personal care. The program also pays for medical and dental expenses, prescription medications and specialty care. 

To qualify for ALTCS services, applicants must be age 65 or older and require a nursing home level of care. Participants may receive care in a nursing home, an assisted living facility or their own home. Financial eligibility requirements stipulate that applicants may have a maximum income of $2,313 per month and no more than $2,000 in assets. Exempt assets include a principal home, personal belongings and a single vehicle.

Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit

The Aid and Attendance benefit is a VA pension top-up available to eligible veterans and their spouses to help pay for home care or services provided in an assisted living facility or nursing home. 

To qualify, a veteran or their surviving spouse must fall under one of the following categories: 

 

 

  • Have poor eyesight in both eyes, with vision of 5/200 or worse 
  • Require assistance with activities of daily living
  • Be bedridden as the result of a chronic illness or disability 
  • Live with a concentric contraction to five or fewer degrees of their visual field



  • The Aid and Attendance benefit isn’t available to those who already receive VA disability benefits.

    Elderlife Bridge Loan

    Elderlife Financial Services provides seniors transitioning to long-term care with the option of a bridge loan to send monthly payments directly to a chosen care facility. A bridge loan can be a temporary solution for those who don’t have the funds on hand to pay the upfront costs associated with moving into an assisted living facility. Once the loan is approved, seniors have up to 24 months to repay the amount borrowed.

    Applicants must meet minimum credit and income requirements to qualify for a bridge loan. Elderlife permits up to six borrowers on an application to increase the chances of approval and reduce monthly payments.
