The Arizona Long-Term Care program operates under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, which is the state’s Medicaid program. The ALTCS provides access to care for low-income seniors and covers or drastically reduces the cost of assisted living and other senior care options in Phoenix and throughout Arizona. Coverage includes services such as dental care (up to $1,000 annually), medical care, prescription medication, support services and case management services.
Seniors must be 65 years of age or older, have a valid social security number, be a resident of Arizona and meet the financial requirements of the program to be eligible. They must also submit to a functional and medical assessment to determine the level of care they require, and they must reside in an approved facility.
Financial requirements include undergoing an assessment to determine whether the senior isn’t capable of paying for their own care. Individual applicants must not earn more than $2,313 per month and may not possess assets totaling more than $2,000 in value. Assets include the cash value of all checking and savings accounts, stocks, bonds, life insurance policies and property.
Seniors must reapply for the ALTCS program annually, and applications are available at their local ALTCS office.
