We chose Handmaker Home for the Aging because it has all levels of care, including skilled nursing, long-term nursing, and assisted living, so my friend doesn't have to move from one place to another. She is receiving excellent care even though she is a very difficult patient. Her room is clean and looks good. She is getting physical therapy every day. The food is Kosher and quite good. I am very impressed with this place.

We visited Handmaker Home and I like the caregiver to resident ratio, and the focus on people with memory issues like Alzheimer's and dementia in Oxford Towers of Berkley. They have a lot of different activities, they have crafts, exercise, and they have an ice cream parlor and ice cream sundae at 2:00 in the afternoon every day. There's also have a little general store where people can use fake money in purchasing things. The place is brand-new, they offer housekeeping and laundry services. The staff that assisted me was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions, the general manager was very helpful, informative and upbeat.

My husband and I have both been at Handmaker Home For the Aging. I just got back from rehab there and my husband was there when he broke his hip, so I'm very familiar with the place. He had a studio and we knew he wasn't going to be there very long, so we didn't bring in a lot of furniture. His room was pleasant and adequate, had a good bathroom, and some kitchen facilities, but for a studio, it was just OK. The staff was very nice except that some of my husband's things went missing. They had a nice menu in the assisted living. They had Bingo, yoga, exercises, and services that were very similar to other facilities. They had excellent rehab facilities and that's their strong point. Other than that, they're perfectly adequate. The staff has been very good, very nice, very friendly, and very helpful.
