We have been here at this facility for 4 years. Since Avista has taken control It is top notch. The staff is great and willing to help. Jake and Cindy are the main stays of what we need every day. They always have something to do to keep us happy. The only thing we miss is the outside trips. We understand that drivers are hard to find. Other than that we are kept busy. with all kind of actives. Up until this month I used to lead the exercise class 2 days a week. I suffer from Vertigo and it is taking its toll on my movement. So I ask to be taken off the exercise class. My wife and I are in the facility choir with Jake as the director. He dose an excellent job . We travel allover to different locations performing. It is great and we have a great time making other people happy. I have to say our time is well spent here and I will give this facility and Avista A five star rating.

Staff is friendly and helpful, however the management staff does not communicate well. The dining room is not fully opened or staffed, food rates from so so to just plain uneatable! Activities led by Jake are out standing and the only reason we stay here!

My dad is here right now. He claims that the food is terrible there. Everything's always cold, and it's not because of the pandemic -- even before that, he was complaining about it. I've also seen my dad's meals, and he always has to put them in the microwave. I always have to call and complain for some reason, like they passed him up and didn't get him dinner several times. I just called yesterday because they didn't give him his medication; they passed him up on that, too. I wish I was in a better position to get him out of there, but I'm not. I'm not happy with them right now, but there are a couple of people on the staff I like. They really reached out to me, and the new med tech in charge is also very good and reaches out to me. I haven't been there lately, but it is a nice facility. It's not the top of the line, but it's OK. They do have entertainment on Wednesdays, and there's a beautiful library, a movie theater, and a salon, which is not open with what is going on right now. I'm paying about $3800, and I'd say I don't give too good of a rating for the money that I pay there, because I'm fighting over them to give him his medicine, his food is terrible, and I have to put money out to order food for him all the time.

Estancia Del Sol was nice. The apartments were nice. I like how the staff knew a lot of the residents by name. They're more in-tune with them. It was more like a resort. They had an exercise room, a salon, entertainment, they take them places, there's bingo, a cafe, happy hour, and a gaming room. They have a dining room and a chef that cooks and prepares all their food.

My tour was fine, my issue with them is that there's no follow up. I called at least twice, but I never got a return call and this was the place my father really wanted to be. The staff who showed me around wasn't the salesperson but the receptionist. She was very helpful, very informative and very kind. She's not the one I had an issue with, it was the salespeople who didn't return my call. She said she did return my phone call but she did not. Even when I called and someone said that she's with the client and that she'll call me within the next half hour, but I never heard from her even after I said it's the second time I called and not heard from them. The appearance of the place looked outdated but it was clean. The rooms are nice, and they seemed like they have the same level of activities as my dad's current community. They need to improve their follow up on potential clients.

The environment at Brookdale Corona was depressing because of the clients. A lot of them were just sitting around in wheelchairs. It's obvious that it was a memory care place because of the affect of some of the clients. The staff was wonderful, very personable, and very helpful. Her follow-up was excellent. It was a good experience. Kaiser was right next door to them, and they walk the clients over for appointments. They had a barber shop, a theater room, activity room, and a separate dining room for residents who are unable to feed themselves.

We visited and it is excellent, the rooms were very clean, very nice, and the staff was friendly. However, I wasn't happy that they acted like they would accept my sister, then they did not accept her after all, and I felt that they did not tell me the truth. We saw a luau, the activity room, and exercise room.

It is a very nice place, and Mom is ecstatic there. The staff is always really helpful. I call them if I need something and they're always willing to go the extra mile for me, so I appreciate that. Mom raves about all the nurses who come and help her. They come to her room three times a day, and she loves them. We made a good choice. Mom's room is pretty much brand new, newly refurbished with new carpeting, and really nice. It's a studio but it has an alcove, so it's like a one-bedroom. They provide her with three meals a day, and she can order off a menu. They go places and do fun things. She's just really happy there.

Estancia Del Sol was a really nice place. The staff was very helpful, very friendly, and very nice. It would have been fantastic, and I wouldn’t mind living there myself. The place was smaller than some of the places we looked at.

Care Cost Comparison
The wide price range between residential, in-home and community-based senior care options is due to differences in the type of care and the number of direct service hours provided each week. In Corona, adult day health services are the least-expensive option because this service provides care on weekdays only in a group setting. Nursing home care is the most expensive because it involves 24/7 skilled nursing care along with room and board. Assisted living costs less than 44 hours a week of in-home support from a home health aide or a homemaker, and assisted living prices include all meals, accommodation, utilities and home maintenance.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Corona
Medicaid in California
Medicaid, the nationwide health protection plan jointly funded through state and federal governments, provides free basic health coverage for one in four California children, adults and seniors. Medicaid is administered by each state and is known as Medi-Cal in California.
Medi-Cal provides coverage for some medically necessary preventive, emergency and rehabilitative services, hospitalization, chronic disease management and limited nonemergency medical transportation. Medi-Cal long-term services include personal care services, skilled nursing facility services and home and community-based services.
Seniors aged 65 and older who are on Social Security benefits are automatically registered for no-cost Medi-Cal coverage. Low-income seniors may be eligible for Medi-Cal if they earn less than $1,242 per month when applying as an individual or less than $1,682 per month as a couple. Income from all sources is counted, including alimony, pension payments and any investment income.
Medi-Cal also has asset limits set at a maximum of $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 per couple. Countable assets include all cash and bank account balances, stocks, bonds and any real estate aside from the applicant’s principal residence, regardless of the value of that home. Also excluded is one vehicle owned by the applicant(s), household furnishings, clothing and a non-revocable burial trust.
Seniors with incomes that exceed Medi-Cal limits may still be able to qualify for Medi-Cal coverage on a Share of Cost basis. Also referred to as Medicaid spend-down, this program lets seniors pay a portion of their excess income toward their medical expenses to reduce their income to reach Medi-Cal eligibility limits each month. Note that Share of Cost cannot be used to reduce excess assets.
For more information and application assistance, contact Covered California at (800) 300-1506.
Assisted Living Waiver
Low-income seniors who qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal coverage and meet the criteria for nursing home placement may qualify for the Assisted Living waiver, a Home and Community-Based Services Medicaid waiver.
The ALW is designed to reduce rates of nursing home placement among low-income seniors by funding additional services within an assisted living setting. To apply, seniors or their representatives need to request an assessment through the local Care Coordination Agency. A registered nurse will evaluate the applicant’s suitability for ALW services and, if approved, prescribe medically necessary services to be delivered to the senior within an assisted living setting.
For more information and to request an ALW assessment, contact the Riverside County Care Coordination Agency, Archangel Home Health Inc., at (562) 861-7047.
