Eskaton Monroe Lodge was the first place I toured. It's an older facility, it's very nice, it's six stories, it doesn't have a large landscaped area, and it's right on Freeport Boulevard, so it's slightly noisier than the other places. It's a little more expensive; it's $3,500 a month. They have a nursing staff that can come in at an additional cost so you don't have to move if you have a short-term health problem. They allow pets.

Golden Pond was a little darker than other facilities, but its also not as expensive as the other places. I probably would have picked them. They have activities, a library, a theater, and everything you need to do. I stopped and talked to the gentleman who was eating and he seemed very happy. Its one long building, and they have very nice people.

We visited Rivers Edge. They were very nice, we had lunch there, and the person who helped us was very good and very open. We felt like it was a well-run place, and its something we would consider because of the location. The staff member was very nice, willing to help, and showed us around. The people we met were very good.

I looked at Eskaton Monroe Lodge. It didn't offer as much as other communities do, and it was more expensive. They didn't provide all of the meals, just one big lunch. If you don't make it in time, they'll give you a bagged lunch with various things in it. The place was very small. The bathroom, the living room, bedrooms, and kitchen area were very small. The staff members were nice and pleasant.

Our mother lived at Land Park Place for four years before her recent passing. In her nineties and coping with dementia, she found a home there. The staff were very professional ensuring that our mother was safe and supported — and treated her like family. They kept us informed of her well-being and effectively dealt with several emergency instances during her stay. In the end, our mother pass away surrounded by family and caring staff in a place where she felt safe. We will always be grateful that Land Park Place was there when our mother needed their help.

Sacramento independent living is never boring. For those who like to shop, the Midtown Sacramento area is full of boutiques, shops and other commercial establishments. Seniors can also go sightseeing at some of the city’s landmarks like the California State Capitol, Sutter’s Fort (a fort constructed by Sacramento’s founding father, John Sutter Sr. in 1841) and Cesar Chavez Park. The Old Sacramento district also has unique historic offerings like steam train rides, period stagecoaches, museums, and an assortment of souvenir shops and restaurants. Special events are also held all year round. The Second Saturdays Art Walk is open starting on the second Saturday of each month while the Concerts in the Park event can be enjoyed on a weekly basis from May to August. Other events include the Sacramento Jazz Festival and Jubilee, California State Fair and the Sacramento Gold Rush Days.
For seniors, Sacramento independent living involves getting integrated into a very vibrant and fun local community through clubs, programs, and activities. The E.M. Hart Senior Center hosts regular recreational events and offers supportive services for seniors and their families. Seniors can also join special interest clubs. For example, the Sierra Club Seniors enjoy going on hikes and other outdoor activities. Bingo halls also offer great venues for social interaction and fellowship.
Sacramento is home to UC Davis Medical Center , a world class research hospital known for its excellent cancer care and orthopedics facilities. Northern California’s sole level 1 trauma center is located here; other specialty centers include the Institute for Regenerative Cures, Burn Center, Mind Institute, and the Vascular Center.
Another excellent health facility is the Sutter Medical Center, a non-profit hospital that is dedicated in providing top quality healthcare to Sacramento residents. The Center provides various medical services (psychiatric, orthopedics, neurology, cancer, spine) to Sacramento independent living seniors.
Sacramento independent living residents can easily navigate through the city by foot, train, car or taxi. Most of the major attractions in the city can be accessed on foot. For example, the train station is just a five-minute walk away from the Old Sacramento district. People can also get around the city by taxi or by the Sacramento Regional Transit light-rail system. Commuter and intercity bus services are provided by Megabus and Yuba-Sutter Transit. Sacramento independent living gives seniors a chance to be in the midst of a diverse and vibrant community. Sacramento is a modern city that is still filled with a friendly old-school ambiance that will make seniors feel right at home.
