I was welcomed at San Carlos Elms. It was neat. The exterior was beautiful, but the interior was dated and a little dilapidated. I had to wait for the staff member because she wasn't quite ready for me. It had a community center vibe to it. Somebody was playing a piano but not very well, and I thought it was good for them. Like if you can play the piano, even if it is not very good, go ahead and play it. It just seemed to be all walks of life (which I appreciated), as opposed to being quiet and stodgy. It had a fun feel to it. The negative was that the rooms were shadowed and the building interior was not updated. The communal areas, like the game and movie room, were on the small side. If everyone came it would be packed because it was small. The dining room was large for some activities.

Information About Assisted Living Facilities in San Carlos
Known as the “City of Good Living,” San Carlos is a lively, small town conveniently located approximately 25 miles south of San Francisco and 25 miles north of San Jose. With the city limits stretching just 5.92 square miles, the city is home to only 27,718 residents.
San Carlos assisted living residents are able to soak in the excitement of Bay Area while living in a peaceful, waterfront community.
San Carlos Activities
One of the most popular local attractions, and a perennial favorite with San Carlos assisted living residents, is the Hiller Aviation Museum. The museum is one of the top aviation museums in the country, and focuses on the history, science and culture of human flight. It has easy access for residents with physical limitations, and offers discounted tickets for seniors. And situated right in downtown San Carlos is the San Carlos History Museum. This small but thorough collection examines the history of the city, from its original land grant in 1795 up through the present day. Housed in a historic residence in the center of San Carlos, the museum offers a leisurely look at a fascinating history.
San Carlos Recreation
The San Carlos Chamber of Commerce boasts an extremely varied membership, affording a unique and exotic mixture of shopping options for residents and visitors. The main downtown shopping area is populated by small, independently owned shops, with most of the larger and national chains residing on the outskirts of the city. Mixed in with this diverse assortment are some of the most highly regarded restaurants on the San Francisco Peninsula.
The city also maintains many parks for residents’ use. Regardless of interests or mobility, the variety of parks available throughout the city will guarantee that every member of the San Carlos senior living community finds their favorite place to enjoy the outdoors.
San Carlos Medical Facilities
With San Carlos being located between San Francisco and San José, the city offers fast and easy access to two of Northern California’s top medical hubs. But for care a little closer to home, San Carlos senior living residents can choose the San Mateo Medical Center , which has facilities in the neighboring cities of San Mateo and Burlingame, and operates a Senior Care Center to address the unique medical needs of the elderly.
San Carlos residents also visit Sequoia Hospital in nearby Redwood City. Serving the Bay Area since 1950, Sequoia is a fully-staffed, 330-bed hospital. In 2009, Sequoia received both the Silver and Bronze “Get with Guidelines Stroke Performance Achievement Award” from the American Heart and Stroke Associations. The hospital also received the “Avatar Exceeding Patient Expectations Award” in 2008 for consistently meeting or exceeding patient expectations.
San Carlos Transportation
As one might expect from the City of Good Living, San Carlos prides itself on the ease of access to nearly all its common areas and facilities. This extends to public transportation, as San Carlos is linked in with the major rail systems of Northern and Mid-California. Both the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and CalTrain are readily available, and offer discounted ticketing for seniors. A San Carlos assisted living community can offer a lifestyle of activity, engagement and enjoyment to your loved one, no matter what their interests and capacities.
