Description of Alzheimer's Activity Center

The Alzheimer's Activity Center (AAC) is the largest, dementia-specific, licensed adult day program in Santa Clara County. AAC has been serving the community since 1986.

Our caregivers have been trained not only in the mandated trainings they have also been trained in our philosophy of care which has proven so successful. Our philosophy of care respects the individual for who they are and is best described as:

The care we provide in all our programs is based upon a philosophy which respects the whole of each person we interact regardless of impairment or age.

We believe every person deserves dignity, respect and compassion as part of our community and as an individual.

As such, we are dedicated to the importance of reaffirming each client's strengths and dignity at a time when many seniors struggle for self-esteem and independence.

The AAC activity program includes a myriad of socialization and activities Monday through Saturday. You never know what we may be doing. We have the expected activities such as bingo, shuffleboard and poker to the not so expected such as creative writing, daily intergenerational activities with the preschoolers from the adjacent Rosa Elena Childcare Center, and cooking. AAC provides opportunities for freedom of movement and choice. We have a large backyard complete with gardening, basketball, shuffleboard and plenty of shaded areas. We have active sewing groups and painting classes. The artwork is proudly displayed in the program.

We support a sense of community for our clients as well as our caregiver. We recognize the needs of the caregiver and strive to assist with balance and respite with our programming, workshops and educational opportunities.
