I went to Madison at Clermont and met with them. They showed me a couple of rooms. The room was fine. My grandmother had lived there for a couple of years way back, so I was pretty familiar with the place. It was alright. I just felt more comfortable with another facility. They were very nice. They took the time to tour me. They were all busy and the staff member went in and had another appointment coming in because I walked in late. She handed me off to another lady. They both had things to do, but they stopped to take care of me, so it was nice for them to do that. They were very accommodating. I washed my hands and had a mask on. They kept their distance, and we did a tour. It was very nice for them to do that.

My father will be moving into Superior Residence of Clermont. I like that the gentleman who did the tour knew his information. The staff member had been there a number of years just like my childcare facility, and it sounded like he was touring for my facility. It was warm, and all of the staff knew all of the residents' names. It felt good. They were wonderful. I got to see places where they played games and did entertainment. It felt comfortable. They had juice bars. They had the same thing at the other place; this place just felt warmer. The way the staff treated the residents was what had me choose it. I do childcare, and the tour that the staff member gave me felt like the tour that we give when we show the parents around our facility. It was just a very warm feeling.

I stayed at Orchard Heights Gracious Retirement Living when it was only two years old. Everything was new, they had a beautiful pool, and the new police station was being built while I was there. I felt very secure, and I was next door to the performing arts theater. Even though they didnt have a nurse on duty, they had managers on duty, and the people were a bit younger. The staff was wonderful, the food was typical institutional, and Ive heard from my friends there that they have a new chef. I played Mahjong, and we had outings quite often, had a spa, and had an exercise room with new equipment.

I've been to Benton House Clermont and I liked their cleanliness and the design of the place. The atmosphere of the community is friendly, unlike other places where I've seen long passages and very sterile environment. The building looks like a Key West house with metal roof and lots of porches on the sides, in the middle they have a very nice interior. They have a few small items that I liked in their ideals in caring for dementia people.

Brookdale was the first to respond to my inquiry for my sister. Everybody was very friendly and nice. The place was clean and neat. They're always striving to improve the food, but it's not home cooking. They take her to her doctors' appointments and promptly take her back.

Superior Residence of Clermont is very nice and clean, but a bit far from where I live. I liked the place very much. It's not resort-like, but it was friendly and I liked the staff, who are all very nice people. They had a card room and activities room.

We liked Superior Residence of Clermont a lot. It was nice and clean, and it seemed like they cared about their residents a lot. They took the time to answer all of our questions. The rooms were nice but looked a little small. The staff was really nice, too.

The type of care is the most influential factor in senior care cost pricing, and that’s especially true in Clermont, where assisted living ($3,275) costs less than half of what nursing home ($8,106) care does. While both services include room and board, nursing homes are geared towards seniors who have complex medical needs and require around-the-clock care. In-home care options, such as a homemaker or home health aide, cost $4,004 per month on top of the regular living expenses associated with maintaining a home.

Medicaid is the national health insurance plan for Americans in need. It’s funded by federal and state governments. In Florida, the Medicaid program provides 88% of Florida’s elderly and disabled with essential health care services, such as long-term care.
Florida residents aged 65 and older who require long-term, Medicaid-funded services must have a monthly income of $2,313 or less and own fewer than $2,000 ($3,000 for couples) in countable assets to qualify for coverage. Seniors who already receive Supplemental Security Income benefits automatically qualify for aged, blind and disabled Medicaid coverage.
Medicaid rules classify some assets as exempt, such as one vehicle, household items and a residence that the applicant and/or their spouse lives in valued at $585,000 or less.
Qualified Income Trust
Because Florida is an income-cap state, there’s no Medicaid spend-down program. Florida Medicaid does permit the use of a Qualified Income Trust.
Also called a Miller Trust, a QIT is a binding legal agreement that seniors can sign to qualify for Medicaid coverage. The senior agrees to place all income that exceeds Medicaid limits into a trust fund that names the State as the beneficiary in exchange for Medicaid coverage. This trust fund can only be used to pay specific medical expenses and associated legal fees.
Upon death, the QIT is released to the State in order to recoup costs paid on behalf of the Medicaid enrollee.
Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program
Seniors aged 65 and older who have Medicaid coverage and meet the clinical criteria for nursing home placement may be eligible for the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long Term Care Program.
The SMMC LTC funds additional community-based support services to seniors in assisted living facilities to reduce the number of seniors living in institutional nursing homes. Services are delivered through a contracted managed care plan and assigned on a case-by-case basis.
SMMC LTC services may include medication management, personal care, rehabilitation, adult day services and access to an emergency response system.
All Florida seniors who request long-term Medicaid services are evaluated through the Comprehensive Assessment and Review for Long-Term Care Services program.
To learn more about Medicaid programs and enrollment, contact ACCESS Florida at (866) 762-2237.
To request a CARES assessment for the SMMC LTC program, call the Lake County Elder Helpline at (800) 262-2243.
Optional State Supplementation
The Optional State Supplementation program provides Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries with additional state funds for use towards their room-and-board costs.
To qualify for OSS, seniors must live in an assisted living facility because they cannot safely live on their own. In addition to the regular SSI benefit, eligible seniors may receive up to $78.40 per month, and couples may receive up to $156.80 per month.
For more information, contact ACCESS Florida at (866) 762-2237.
Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance
VA Aid and Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance are two enhanced pension programs for regular VA pension recipients. To qualify, claimants must have a permanent disability or chronic illness that impairs their day-to-day functioning. Claimants may only receive benefits from one of these two programs.
To qualify for Aid and Attendance, claimants must:
