I visited the Grand Villa of Englewood. It's nice, the people were nice, and the facility was nice. They showed me a 1-bedroom and a studio, and they actually had one smaller than a studio. They had all kinds of activities, and they had a swimming pool and all kinds of stuff like a game room and a TV room. They told me they had three meals a day, but I didn't see the food.

My mom moved into Grand Villa of Englewood assisted living and she just absolutely loves it. What they do there that I think is better than a lot of other communities is that the people who need more assistance, like the people in memory care, have their own dining room, their own wing, and they have things segregated. The people that are independent or assisted are all in one area and they share the dining room. It's just a better situation. They have an activity director whom I hope they'd keep because she's just very vibrant and tries to pull people who are a little apprehensive or shy out of their shell and get them involved. The meals are good. They have a pavilion and bistro area for coffee. The residents also have little pods that they wear around their neck that they can use if they need assistance. They also have pull chains in the bathroom and bedroom for the nurse to come. People don't pay the same price as it's based on the rooms. If you're in a studio and need lesser care, its a lesser price. As the need goes up, the price goes up. They work with a physician staff and they come in periodically so I don't have to pick my mom up and take her to the doctor and take her back. They also will take them to Walmart or to a doctor's appointment if it's in the local vicinity. They also have LPNs on site.

I like that Grand Villa of Englewood has a swimming pool. They give you a break on the cost for the first year, which is nice. The layout of the rooms there are about the same as his current community. They have more rooms on the ground floor, which I like. I would have loved to have my relative on the ground floor, but they seemed to think he'd fit in with the people on the second floor. They have a lot of nice things, like church services. However, my relative doesn't know how to look at the calendar. They also have bingo, and lots of activities for residents who are able to or want to join in. He enjoys meal time because he can talk to the other residents. I would rate them a four because it's an older community, and that makes a difference. As far as the staff, I only met the gentleman who showed me the rooms there.

We chose Grand Villa of Englewood for my step-father. It's a beautiful community. My mother didn't want to look anywhere else when she saw that place. They have a lot of good activities there, like they take them on trips to Walmart if they want to go, and they have movie nights, singing, Bible studies and a lot of things going on if people want to do it. The food is great, with big services and a lot of food. He seems very happy. He had a good-sized room with a beautiful bathroom. I guess the only downside is the cost.

The rooms at Grand Villa are better. I have an average room, but I could have more closet space. The shower doesn't have a very good handicapped stall. I had a boyfriend with me, and he went to use the shower, and he fell. They had to take him to the hospital because he couldn't get up. It was really bad; that part I didn't like. As far as the people, most of them are nice. I like the pool, and I like the daytime exercise that they have. They have a few more activities like pizza parties every once in a while, birthday parties once a month, movies on Saturdays and Sundays, and trips every week to Wal-Mart. That part was not bad. The food was a little bit better too. I like the way that the buildings are laid out because it's more open. The room is a little small but it's OK.
