Reviews of Assisted Living Facilities in Alpharetta

I visited this facility

Tapestry House Assisted Living was very pretty, but the staff looked very uncomfortable and did not look relaxed with the residents. I didn't see much interaction. It was a nice layout, and it was huge. For people using wheelchairs or walkers, to go from one section to the next would be a lot. The new building was very nice. I just didn't care for the feel of it. It wasn't so friendly or inviting. The place was so big, and there wasn't enough residents to fill it up. It didn't have that homey feeling.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Alpharetta

Medicaid in Georgia

  • Be disabled or blind
  • Be pregnant
  • Be a child or the parent of a child
  • Be a U.S. citizen or meet immigration rules

Medicaid offers several financial programs for seniors who need help paying for assisted living in Alpharetta. The most popular assistance comes from two Medicaid waivers: the Community Care Services Program (CCSP) and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE)

Community Care Service Program

Under the CCSP, seniors can receive various support and services that may otherwise be an out-of-pocket cost. This program makes it possible for seniors to receive care while remaining in the community. Some of these services include adult day health care, emergency response equipment and personal care. To qualify, individuals must:

  • Have some type of functional impairment that causes physical limitations
  • Receive a recommendation from their physician for intermediate nursing home care
  • Be eligible for Medicaid
  • Choose to receive their care at home or in an assisted living facility rather than in a nursing home

To be financially qualified, monthly income is limited to $2,313 for each applicant, and the countable asset value must be less than $2,000 for single applicants and $3,000 for married applicants. This limit excludes the individual’s primary vehicle and the primary residence, valued at up to $585,000. There’s also a $10,000 burial extension for applicants and their spouses.

To apply for CCSP, seniors can contact the Atlanta Regional Commission on Aging at (404) 463-3333.

SOURCE

Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment combines primary care, social services and long-term care programs for seniors who live at home or in assisted living communities.

The types of services provided may include:

  • Skilled nursing care
  • Home delivered meals
  • Respite care
  • Emergency response system
  • 24-hour medical access
  • Adult day health
  • Personal support services

To be eligible for SOURCE, an individual must be 65 or older with a chronic medical condition or disabled, determined to need nursing home level of care and eligible for full Medicaid.

To apply for SOURCE, seniors should contact the local Department of Human Services at (888) 552-4464.

Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Home and Community-Based Services

Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) help seniors aged 60 and older live independently. Seniors must demonstrate the need for care that’s available in an institutional setting but be able to live safely within the community. Mandated through the Older Americans Act, HCBS provides a variety of services, including:

  • Congregate meals at senior centers
  • Home-delivered meals
  • Fitness classes
  • Emergency response services
  • Home modifications
  • Respite care
  • Homemaker services
  • Chore services
  • Adult day services
  • Education and support groups

There’s a cap on the number of people who can participate in this program, and the Department of Human Services has included a tier system to help people better understand the likelihood of receiving care within the next year. Tier one is for individuals with a high level of need and therefore have a priority position. Tier two is for those who have been determined to have a lower level of need than those with a tier one status and may need to reapply when their situation becomes more urgent.

For more information, interested seniors can go online to the HBCS website or contact (800) 436-7442.
