My friends are in Dunwoody Health and Rehabilitation Center. The staff is pleasant, the building is well maintained, and the second floor to the rooms are nice. The rooms were normal size, both have shared rooms, and they seemed to be well cared for. They have activities and exercise or therapy areas.

We ended up moving our mother into Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody, which is a Sunrise community. So far it's been good, and she's enjoying it. They're meeting her needs and the price is affordable, so it seems to be a good match. Her room there is small, but we kind of knew that going into it. They have activities like bingo, reading, movies, and they have outings that I have been told about. Their dining area is nice. It looked good. They have a small courtyard which is nice, the overall layout seems fine, and the people are all very pleasant, which is the biggest factor. The staff has been good. She's enjoying the food there, although I haven't experienced it firsthand.

It was fantastic. I really liked the facilities altogether. The person who took care of me was great. Everything was new, fresh, and clean. They had a pretty full social calendar. The residents seemed very connected to each other and socialize with one another.

We found Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody to be homey-looking. The one-bedroom apartments are pretty spacious, and so far we've been pretty happy with the care my mother-in-law is getting there. She doesn't want to participate in the activities, but the activities director always encourages her to join. They have a walking group in the mornings and afternoons and exercise programs where most of the clients use a chair to do exercises. They also have sing-alongs, ice cream socials, card club, bridge club, and some other type of games like puzzles. They also take the residents out to eat once a week at different restaurants right around the area, and go on little outings to some of the art galleries or shopping at Walmart. There's also a nice library with a lot of books, and they play games to keep the mind active. Everybody I've met there was friendly and helpful.

I was very impressed because it's a fairly new facility. It was very clean, very modern, and the people were very nice. I was just disappointed because all they have are apartments with one bedroom, and all the ones I looked at were small, but they've got enough room that you could certainly do OK there. The staff was great and invited us over for lunch. The location was perfect for us. I was just impressed with everything about it, the way it looked, and the people I met there.

I chose Signature Healthcare of Buckhead when I got back from the hospital because it was close to my friends who come visit. However, the rooms are smaller, there is not enough room for the clothes, and they don't fix things fast enough. Our dryer has been broken for about a month, so we have to hang our clothes in our room to dry. They have bingo, the Price is Right, and movies. They have a chaplain, but there's not a room for it. The food is not good and the price is way too high. They have handicap apartments.

My mom loved Sunrise of Huntcliff Summit. The tour was excellent. They took us to all the different options and showed us around the whole facility. There's a pool, walking paths, and common areas, and it goes from independent to assisted living. The apartments were very nice and everybody was very friendly. They have a full activity schedule. They have a library, an exercise room, technology area, and crafting. They had a very nice menu.

It was a nice and clean place. They had nice rooms, a nice open area, and nice staff. Their dining room was open. Residents were being served restaurant-style, not cafeteria-style. They showed me different room options; however, my dad needs more care and assistance than they can offer.

Renaissance on Peachtree was like living in a fine hotel. The apartments were beautiful and very nice. They had a lot of activities like trips to the theater, shopping, galleries, and a workout room. It was kind of high scale. The dining room was like a restaurant because you can go in there and order what you want. They had about four or five restaurants that you could go to and eat in, but they don't have a big dining hall. The staff was pretty friendly, and one nice lady called me.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Atlanta
Medicaid in Georgia
Medicaid, a government-funded health insurance program, provides eligible low-income Americans with health coverage, including pregnant women, elderly adults, people with disabilities and other qualified groups. Since each state operates its own Medicaid program, the available coverage may vary. In Georgia, Medicaid covers a variety of medically necessary services, such as doctor visits, hospital visits, emergency ambulance services, home health services and nursing facilities.
Seniors who live in the Atlanta area may be eligible for Medicaid coverage if they meet the program’s financial requirements. Georgia’s Medicaid income limit is $30,850 per year (before taxes) for single seniors. The income limit for couples is $41,768. In addition to these financial requirements, seniors must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, legal aliens or permanent residents.
Seniors can apply for Medicaid coverage through the state’s online portal, Georgia Gateway. Alternately, they can apply in person at their local Division of Family and Children Services office. Atlanta’s DFCS office is located at 1249 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. This office can be reached by phone at (404) 206-5300.
Seniors need to provide supporting documentation when they apply for Medicaid coverage. This documentation includes proof of Georgia residency, proof of citizenship status and their Social Security number. Seniors should also provide their most recent pay stubs, if applicable.
For more information about Georgia Medicaid or to receive help applying for coverage, call (800) 436-7442.
Medicaid Waivers
Georgia seniors who qualify for Medicaid and require the level of care provided by a nursing home may be eligible for assistance from one of the state’s two Medicaid waiver programs. These programs are Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment and the Community Care Services Program. There is a waiting list for both programs, and seniors can only participate in one program at a time.
SOURCE participants receive an individual care plan, which may include long-term health services. Assistance available through this program covers adult day health care, personal support and assisted living services. A comprehensive medical assessment determines eligibility for the program. This assessment also outlines what assistance a senior can receive through SOURCE. To apply for this program, seniors can call (866) 552-4464 to speak to a Home and Community-Based Services representative.
Seniors who participate in the CCSP can receive a variety of help in their own homes or in an assisted living facility. This assistance is monitored by a care coordinator and includes adult day health care, alternative living services and personal support services. To apply for this Medicaid waiver program, seniors can call the Area Agency on Aging at (855) 552-4464. The AAA conducts assessments to determine if seniors are eligible for the CCSP and then adds eligible seniors to the waiting list.
Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living
Optional State Supplementation
Low-income seniors in Atlanta may be eligible to receive money from the state’s Optional State Supplementation program. OSS provides additional funds to Supplemental Security Income recipients who live in assisted living facilities. Seniors can use this money to help pay for room and board. For single seniors, the maximum monthly OSS payment is $20, while couples can receive up to $40.
To qualify for OSS funding, seniors must be eligible for SSI. They must also live in a Medicaid facility. To learn more about OSS funding, seniors can call (800) 772-1213 to speak to a Social Security Administration representative.
Veterans Affairs Aid and Attendance Program

This program provides additional monthly payments to eligible seniors. To qualify, seniors must need assistance from another person to eat, bathe, get dressed or perform other daily personal functions. Seniors may also be eligible if they are legally blind, bedridden or living in a nursing home.
