We did an in-person tour of Hawaii Kai. They showed us a vacant room. Because the pandemic is going on, they couldn't exactly show us the whole inside of like the main building. The guy that we met was very nice, he knew what he was talking about, very professional, and very considerate to my dad. It seemed like a really pretty area, it's pretty clean, and it's fairly quiet. The staff seemed very nice, knowledgeable, they seemed like they had a lot of good resources, like there's a gym that's there with a physical therapist. One thing they were telling me is that if my dad needs physical therapy, that he wouldn't have to travel to go to his treatment. He can get them there if he desires, and so that was kind of cool. They're a little bit expensive and the rooms were kind of small if it's just for one person living there, and they do have options based on how much you're gonna pay. I guess the least expensive room was the kind that we saw, but it was still kind of pricey. There's a nurse on site and if she needs to do care with the patient, there's a seperate fee for her. I feel like it should be included, like for how much you're paying. I think the cheapest room there is like $4,500 a month. I guess I was a little bit put off by the idea that the nurse charges by the hour if she needs to come and do anything.

We went to Dignity Senior Living at Oceanside, they were not expecting us when we showed up, and they don't do in-person tours. I was a little bit frustrated, because it was about an hour from where I live, and we really want to see it. What they did was we stayed outside, and they walked us through the part of the parking lot where you could see the other side of the building, and they talked to us, so I did get some information from them. I could see they were more affordable and less expensive than the other place, but I didn't see the inside of the facility at all. I did like that they said that when they wanna make changes inside, like to the menu, or were kind of things that affect the seniors who live there, kind of have control over, that they let them vote on what they wanna change, and like what changes they wanna make. It's an older facility, but they actually had a disinfection station, like for all of the workers to go through right at the entrance, and that was the first thing I saw. It was nice because you know the pandemic and those older people are for sure high risk, and that was cool. It's very nice, like in nature, it's surrounded by forest, you're fairly close to the beach, so if a family member wants to come and just take you. I mean the driveway is a little bit long, but once you get off the driveway, it's just across the street. It's kind of a cozy, comfortable place. They have a lot of services, there's transportation that takes them to and from doctors' appointments, they also have a physician onsite if you want to have your care done there, and they also have a physical therapist there. They also have community time activities for the residents to come down and participate, and one thing I really liked is the meals are included with your room and board, and unless there's some kind of medical thing going on with you that you have to stay in your room, you have to physically come down and sit with everyone to eat. If you are like, "No, I don't want to sit down with everyone and eat," then they charge you for that meal, you have to pay for the meal. I could see that with my dad. I would want there to be things encouraging him towards not being depressed, because you're not living with your family, you're living with a bunch of people who you may not know.

My tour of Hawaii Kai was very informative, and I saw various residences. It's an excellent community. I would have no problem at all moving my mom in there if she was willing to go. The rooms were very nice. They had nice facilities like a swimming pool. The landscaping was nice. It's a very large facility with large grounds. Because of COVID, I was unable to see their exercise facilities, but they have that.

Hawaii Kai has nursing care provided so my friend is assisted with things for her daily life. It's very lovely. Right now we're on COVID lockdown, so nothing's quite normal. There are no visitors right now. She's very happy there though, and very happy than where she was. So it's working out very well. The staff and everyone has been wonderful. They have a weight room, they have classes, they have a beautiful dining room, a pool, dining room, and a beauty salon. They have everything that the retired community could enjoy. People can have pets, and it's a very nice atmosphere. She's very happy with the food compared to where she was. The food is very good. They're getting served in their rooms because the dining room isn't open. She was paying even more, where she was, and it was terrible.

We were quite impressed with what they have and what they offer at Hawaii Kai. We're on their list and we will be notified if a two-bedroom opens up. The staff was wonderful. We looked at three-bedrooms and two-bedrooms. We looked at all their recreational areas, which include the gym, movie theater, and dining hall. It was a very good tour. There was something going on almost everywhere we went in the activity rooms.
