Brookdale is managed by a corporation and they will not take care of hiring enough staff including a good chef. They do not have enough staff to do housekeeping for residents which is in the contract. They seem to only care about filling the rooms.

I toured North Star Retirement Community. I was able to get in ahead of my appointment, and they gave me a tour. It was a nice facility, but Dad chose another place. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It's very clean, nice, and tidy. They have two dining rooms for the assisted and independent living. It was very nice in appearance, and it looked like a nice restaurant. It almost looked like you're out in the woods, but you're not. There were large trees all around, and it was very peaceful there.

North Star Retirement Community was great. It reminded me of being on a cruise ship. There were lots of things going and great people still living, not just waiting to die. The staff was great. The room shown to us was a one-bedroom, one-bath, but she showed us all the other floor plans. I liked the live band and dancing on Wednesday nights. They had a library, an exercise room, pianos on every floor, and all-day meals and a menu. Everything was inclusive. It was less expensive than the others, but you pay for it. They don't take financial assistance.

Legends Park was more how I expected a senior place to be. There were old people toddling around. The apartment they showed us was nice and clean, but it was not as nice as the others. The staff was great. It seemed older and renovated and wasn't as bright and happy. The people were waiting around.

I like Legends Park very much. The people here are very caring and knowledgeable, and it's smaller than where I was. I'm very happy with it all the way around. It's well kept. We play bingo and we have craft time. There's something going on almost all the time, but they don't push you to do it. We have a bus and they go on trips. The dining room is open from 7:30 in the morning until 6:30 in the evening, so you can go at any time. The food is very nutritious. They don't have a lot of fried food and they have very small desserts.
