My mom was there for first for rehab, and then for long term care and I can\'t compliment them enough...from the reception staff to the nurses and therapists; they were all so friendly and helpful. It was a very positive experience.

My mom was a resident of Burgess Square Healthcare Center, and it was nice. We couldn't see her because of COVID, but the people that I interacted with were very nice too. My sister and I didn't know what to do, and they were very helpful. They arranged everything, and kept us updated every day because we both couldn't be around. She was in a private room and had it all by herself. She started off on a walker and then to a two-person assist. I think it was just because my mom's health declined. The facility was also clean. They had tables and chairs that they were bringing out for spring, and a little grass and stuff around.

My mother is in Sunrise of Bloomingdale. The care is fine. I talked to the caregivers, the nurse, and the manager. Everyone is doing very well, except she's not crazy about the food. She forgets to order from the menu, so they've been ordering for her. One of her caregivers is going to go every day and help her order lunch. She has a studio with her own furniture, her own TV, and an easy chair. Right now, just about everybody is assigned to their rooms because of COVID, but they're supposed to open up in the middle of April when everybody has gotten their shots. It's a really nice and comfortable place. They have several rooms, a cafeteria-style eating area, and right behind the building there is a forest preserve, so it's very pleasant. I haven't been allowed in the building. I've only looked at pictures, but the communication is very good. It's only been three or four weeks, but so far, it's OK. She has very pleasant caregivers. She has two very pleasant women who take care of her.

I was able to see Brookdale in Lisle. I remember they had a good doctor on the staff there and that was good. I only talked to one woman and she was very good. She was the one in charge of giving us the tour. The room was nice. I think they were doing a lot of remodeling, but the upkeep was good. I think it was homey. It was a good visit.

We're using 1776 Senior Care. The caregiver helps my parents around the house, like doing projects. She helps them with the computer and helps them with shopping and appointments. Right now, they're doing good and my parents like them.

We took her to The Auberge at Naperville. The outside looks good. You can't see much of the inside because of COVID-19. I mean, my general impression is favorable at this point. The staff seems very receptive and nice. My sister has Alzheimer's, so we just drove up there, called the staff, and they came out to the car and took her away like it was nothing. I am happy with it. They are having a little trouble just getting her to eat, but we were having that same issue before we transferred her. She just recently just suddenly sulked and her appetite decreased. It's not anything on their part, but part of it is that she's in a strange environment with strange people every day. She just needs to get used to that. They told me they have activities, but first they got to do an evaluation with some different kind of occupational and other types of therapy, and then they'll proceed from there.

Independence Village has been wonderful with my 85 year old mother. They help her when she needs help, and are providing a very safe, secure environment during the COVID crisis. This is a difficult time for the elderly and I am very thankful they are providing so much for her!! Thank you Patricia and the rest of the staff!! You truly are appreciated.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Dupage County
Medicaid in Illinois
Low-income seniors in Dupage County may be eligible to receive health insurance through Illinois Medicaid. Through this entitlement program, qualifying seniors may receive financial assistance for adult day health care and in-home personal care services. The Supported Living Program and the Long-Term Care Waiver, which are outlined below, provide long-term nursing home care services to seniors.
To qualify for Medicaid, Dupage County seniors must be at least 60 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident and a resident of Illinois. Additionally, they must meet income and asset guidelines. Individuals who are eligible for Medicaid may have a monthly income of up to $1,041 and up to $2,000 in countable assets. If both spouses are applying for Medicaid, the income limit is $1,409 per month and the countable asset limit is $3,000.
Those who do not meet income and asset eligibility requirements may still qualify for Illinois Medicaid through the Medically Needy Pathway program, which is often called a spend-down program, or through Medicaid planning, which is for those who cannot afford the cost of their medical care.
Illinois Medicaid offers two Home and Community-Based Waiver programs that can pay for senior care services that are not generally covered by Medicaid.
The Supportive Living Program provides an alternative to nursing home care for low-income individuals who prefer to live in an assisted living facility. While this program does not cover room and board, it does pay for supportive service, such as personal care assistance, medication management and social and health activities.
The Long-Term Care program provides payment for long-term nursing home services. To receive financial assistance with nursing home care, seniors must apply for medical benefits through the Department of Human Services and obtain a needs screening through the Department on Aging.
For more information on Illinois Medicaid or its waiver programs, Dupage County residents can visit the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services website or call (800) 226-0768.
