In 1840 Francis Preston Blair, editor of the Washington Globe, discovered a natural spring flowing with mica chips on a walk with his daughter. Two years later, he built a mansion and aptly named it Silver Spring Mansion on a 250 acre estate which included the spring. Located at the northern apex of Washington, DC, President Lincoln was a frequent guest of the Blair’s during the Civil War.
Given the proximity to Washington, DC, seniors who choose assisted living in Silver Spring have a unique ability to enjoy all of both Silver Spring and our nation’s capital have to offer from extensive parks & trails to countless museums and the unique open air mall Downtown Silver Spring.
