John Bertram House

Situated in the historic area of Salem Common in Salem, John Bertram House is a part of the John Bertram Homes, a selection of locations founded by Salem sea captain and philanthropist John Bertram. First opened in 1990, our community was the first free-standing assisted living community in Massachusetts. The physical location of our community is only a short walk from area shops, dining and entertainment.

We offer a range of accommodation options in which residents can relax and enjoy their stay. Apartments come standard with a variety of safety features for added peace of mind, including a 24-hour emergency call system that is monitored by staff members. Activities of all sorts are scheduled each day, so residents have the opportunity to stay active and engaged. Events can include fitness classes, educational programs and even group outings to area destinations.

Here at John Bertram House, we know that a healthy diet is a very important factor for our residents' health. As much as possible, meals at our community are prepared from scratch using local ingredients. Our experienced chefs communicate with residents and take into account their personal favorites and meal preferences. In addition, snacks are offered throughout the day.

Available Services

As a part of the numerous premium services we provide, all accommodations receive weekly housekeeping and daily trash removal, as well as weekly personal laundry services. Family or friends from out of town have access to guest accommodations and are welcome to share in a meal during their visit.

As a provider of assisted living, seniors at our community know that while here, they have access to supportive services and care 24 hours a day. Theses services can include help with dressing, personal hygiene and other daily tasks.
