Michigan’s Medicaid program provides low-income state residents with comprehensive health care benefits, including but not limited to emergency services, physician visits, mental health care, medical transportation, hospital care and annual preventive health exams.
Applicants must meet income and asset requirements to qualify for Medicaid coverage. Single applicants are limited to $1,041 in monthly income and $2,000 in assets, Married applicants with both spouses applying can earn $1,409 a month and have $3,000 in assets. For married couples with only one spouse seeking coverage, individual income and asset limits apply. All sources of income count against the limit, but some assets are excluded, such as a home, car, personal belongings and irrevocable burial trusts.

MI Choice Waiver
Designed to offer alternatives to residents who require nursing home care but would prefer to live independently, the MI Choice waiver provides funding for care services at home or in an assisted living facility. Waiver recipients may qualify for one or more services, including but not limited to nursing care, medical supplies not covered by Medicaid and personal care. Applicants must be age 65 or older, Medicaid eligible and need a nursing home level of care to qualify. Disabled individuals 64 and younger may also apply.
