My husband and I are in the assisted living level of The Homestead at Anoka. We like this community so much. We have one meal a day in the dining room and so far the food has been good. There are other activities that we haven't taken part in because we've only been here a short time. However, we have a lot of things to do here. We've gone past their activities on our way to the dining room, and we saw people just breaking up from a game of bingo. The staff checks on us once every 24 hours to make sure we're still here, and that's an important thing. We have a dishwasher here, but when I tried to use it, it didn't work. So I called the maintenance man yesterday and he came today, on Memorial Day, and got it working. I would call that a good response in terms of maintenance. The staff and the people here are very friendly and helpful, and the place looked excellently clean when we came. When we go to wash our linens we have our own laundry. But to get the bed made is the hardest thing for me, so the staff that comes in to get your clean linens makes the bed. With our handicap, that's a big deal. Most of the people here can't drive or don't have a car, so they have buses here that will take you twice a week. One trip they'll take you to one shopping area, and the other one to a different area. You just sign up if you want to go. Our room is spacious to a degree, like a small apartment would be. The kitchen is very organized and the bedroom is adequate for a queen-sized bed and a couple of dressers. Plus, the closets are really big, like somebody could sleep in there. The bathroom is also quite adequate, so I'm quite happy with our apartment. My husband thinks of it as a nice hotel and asks when we're going home.
