My parents will be moving into Oakey Assisted Living. My tour experience was wonderful. The staff was very polite, knowledgeable, and had good interaction with the residents we came across. We actually had a meal there, the food and the service was very good, and so it was a gold star all the way. The common areas were very clean, very open, and very inviting, some of the rooms were very small, but my parents were able to get the floor plan with the biggest 1-bedroom floor plan. They have a nice room, and they'll be very comfortable there. They have trips to different shopping centers scheduled, they have bingo, dances, arts and crafts, they have an exercise class, and they have balance and memory that they incorporate into the exercise class. They've got a little gym with a bike and treadmill, they have Wii tournaments, and a little movie theater that you can watch a movie if you want to.

Oakey Assisted Living is great. It's beyond our expectations. My grandmother's room is very nice and perfect for her. They have a bunch of activities like Bingo, crafts, exercise classes, outings, live music with dancing, and happy hour. The staff is very friendly with her and with me. Because it's such a nice environment and everyone is upbeat, and the people who work there care about their job, that the residents are very happy. We're happy for her that we found this place. My grandmother is very picky, but she loves the food there. They make everything exactly how she wants it, the menu is extensive, and the chef is topnotch.

Oakey Assisted Living was very nice, but it wasn't in the best part of town. It was a new community and they were only 50% occupied. It's mixed-in with the gated community, so there are people with apartments and living in this place together, so I didn't feel comfortable about it. They have all the amenities, and it was nice. It's just the neighborhood that's the problem. I couldn't walk outside the community without getting killed or mugged. The rooms were very nice. They were brand new.

I was very impressed with Oakey Assisted Living. All the rooms were vacant, so they were clean. There were three different options depending on budget or preference, which I thought was a decent amount of alternatives. I was there in the afternoon and they had live entertainment. There was someone singing and accompanying on the piano. They had a list of activities. Any staff person would stop or smile and say hello. The person who gave us the tour was fantastic, professional and patient, and everybody else that we met along the way was very friendly.

Oakey Assisted Living by Destinations was nice. What stood out was the cleanliness of the community. The staff, presentation, and the accommodations were all very nice. The rooms were pleasant and roomy enough for accommodations. It's in a residential area, so it was convenient and close to everything. The staff was very pleasant, very welcoming, very helpful, and understanding of the situation.

We visited Oakey Assisted Living by Destinations. They were very friendly. It's not quite full. I liked that the medication care was cheaper than most places. If you're playing bingo, they'll find you to give you the medication. It was like about half the price of the other place. The rooms were neat and clean. They would take you out to casino or shopping. They have bingo and different activities. There weren't as many people there that I could ask. They showed a pool table, TV places, and little outdoor places. They don't have too much going on down the hallways. The staff was great. I noticed a couple of people sitting around. They were friendly and they smiled. The staff was really great. Everyone said hello to each other. They were very friendly to those who were living there. The people living there seemed to be happy. I asked a few people, and they said they loved it there. This is a friendly place. The rooms had full refrigerators with full freezers.

We visited Oakey Assisted Living by Destinations. The environment was less than desirable due to the fact that to gain entrance from one direction, you have to go through another assisted living place and punch in a code to get the gate open. If you come in from the other entrance, you have to go to a church parking lot and punch in the code to the facility from there. Once inside the facility, it's above average: the layout, the conditions, everything. The person who assisted me was super, really cordial, and knowledgeable. The dining area looked very nice. I was presented with a menu and the breakfast seemed to be great, the lunches were well above average, and the dinners just didn't look that good. They didn't seem to offer anything. I'm diabetic and I'm on the five-meal plan where you have to have a great breakfast and a great dinner, a snack in the morning, a snack in the afternoon, and a snack before you go to bed at night. If it hadn't been for the menu, I would be living there right now. My tour was essentially an hour and a half to two hours. We toured the different rooms and the apartment that I would be renting. Of all the places that I visited or called, I would go back to Destinations Oakey. Even though the evening menu doesn't measure up, I would be able to put up with it.

The rooms were too small at Oakey, which were about 200 square feet. The facility was done well and had been revamped, so it was clean. It had a good design and was easy to get around in, but the rooms started at 320 square feet. I've had closets bigger than that. On top of that, they wanted $2,600 to $2,700 a month for it. Not only were they small, they were way overpriced. It was well built with quality materials.
