I really liked Somerset Gardens Senior Living. It was actually on the top of our list. They had a ton of parking, and even though it was older, it was still homey. It was actually a converted hotel. I really like that most of their rooms have outdoor balconies, too. The staff was very, very accommodating, pleasant, and excellent. The halls were a little narrow, though. I think they should have been a little wider, but that was fine. It was clean and had no smell.

Somerset Gardens Senior Living was perfect in every way, the rooms, the staff, the activities, everything. There were games, an event every day where guests could leave and go out to shopping, church, temples, and sign up for various shows outside the facility. Family can accessibly come in and out and have lunch or dinner with their loved ones at any time, any day, which was nice. It was more flexible and they have more of a choice. The menu looked very flexible and they had choices. The rooms were clean, spacious and they had various ones you could choose from. They had a rehab room which was great, and they had a lot of options there. They also had a game room, different times of meals, and they can be in their room or be with everybody else, so they had that option because not everybody wants to join everything, yet they encourage it, which is great.

My mom is at Somerset Gardens, and it's very nice. It was very clean, they do everything there, and they have a lot of activities. Her room is a studio, but it's a nice, big room. She's OK with the meals, and the food is good. They have a beauty parlor, doctors, and nurses. It was very convenient. They have exercise, a physical therapy room, a Bingo room, and a country kitchen where you can get coffee. They have little parties there, like ice cream socials, or pizza parties. In the living room they have a big TV and you can sit in the couches and watch television. It was a motel at one time, and they have a big area with couches.

We visited Somerset Gardens, which is a very nice place. But the overall price-range is kind of a la carte. So if you need pills you pay extra, or if you need help bathing that's also extra. So the original price of let's say $3,200 goes up to almost $5,000, whereas the place we picked is all-inclusive. The rooms there were fair-sized and they had a few activities. But it seems like the people were kind of isolated, and it didn't have a community type of atmosphere. The dining area was very nice, and they had a very extensive menu with lots of options. They had quite a lot of things going on, although they didn't have patios for people to sit outside. It was a nice place, although a little too big for what we were looking for. I would rate them a four if you can afford it. The staff was very friendly, and they actually still call me and they tried to stay in touch with me. It was a very nice place.

Somerset Gardens is less money than the place where my mom was at; however, we don't think the care is as good. We think the staff could do better. They need to pay attention to the needs of the residents. It's clean, and they serve three meals a day. However, so far, with the money I'm paying, I don't think we're getting full value for it.
