We went to the Abernethy Laurels. We liked it, but they wanted a minimum of $212,000 up front that you didn't get back. We saw some houses, and a townhouse, attached houses like duplexes. They did not include as many utilities, and the food was not included, so you didn't get very much for your monthly fee ... I didn't think. We only met one person, she was fine. We didn't see very much of anything there, we just really went to an open house kind of thing, and visited a townhouse. It was good, it wasn't as nice as the other place, but it looked clean and fairly new. We saw one house there, but it was old. It was the first house they'd ever built, but it had a basement and that was appealing.

It would have been my first choice for my mom. It's clean and bright, and everyone seems to know everybody's names. Since it's independent living there's a lot of ins and outs going on. Because of COVID everyone wears masks, which is good. It's laid out very well. It has an open atrium laid out in the middle with all of the activities around that and the rooms shoot off of that down hallways. It's very friendly. They have their own library, a chapel, music area, and several gathering areas on each floor that encourage people to get together. Someone was putting puzzles together when I visited and there's a reading room. The person who accommodated me during my visit was great. He was very considerate of my mom, answered any questions with her directly, and showed us several room options for her. It was great.

This used to be a great place, but now it’s terrible. Every time I talk to my friend who lives there, he complains. He says the people who work there are rude and it’s hard to get help. The food is burnt and flavorless. There is nothing to do all day.

Abernethy Laurels is beautiful. I love it. I have friends who live there. They have two dining areas, and they're very clean, and very nice. They have entertainment areas, they have a place called a spirit room, and they bring in guests to entertain the residents. They also have lots of activities. They have art shows, musicians, and trips. They have their own bus too.

My mom is in here and she moved in about a month ago. It's a wonderful place, it feels very much like a resort, and the residents have their own little apartments. The food is really good, she gets to exercise and go on runs, and it's set in a neighborhood area. It's close to grocery stores and doctor's offices, and they offer transportation to local stores. She's very happy. She has a 1-bedroom apartment with a living room, and a good size balcony, that looks out over a secluded nook with plants and trees. She's got a big bedroom with a big bathroom that has a walk-in shower.

Pinecrest was very nice, and I would recommend it to anyone who could afford it. The whole place was clean, modern, updated, and upscale. The manager or administrator was very nice and accommodating. It was conveniently located near grocery stores, drugstores, churches, and shopping centers.

I spent a night at Pinecrest. The staff member I talked to was fine and very kind. We had several conversations on the phone and through emails before I went over there. He is a great representative for that community. The room was fine, but I felt confined, and I’m not ready for that. I ate one meal, and the food was OK. My biggest issue was there were too many people in walkers and wheelchairs, and I just couldn’t live in that environment.
