I really liked Brookdale Chapel Hill, but I wasn't sure if they would provide the level of care that my mother needed. It's a good place, and the apartments looked nice, adequate, and a good size. The person during the tour was great. I liked her a lot. The only activity I observed was people eating, and the dining area looked fine.

Don't ever use Brookdale Chapel Hill. They took some of my mother's medicines and I didn't get it back. She was without medication and the nurse was mean to her. She needs to be reported to the State Board of Nursing. She is despicable. You can trust her on anything and she couldn't even do blood sugars on my mother. My mother was in bad shape. She was awful and she really did Mom dirty. My mom just sat at the sofa, staring out in space. They're appalling and horrible. Every month they'd get my mom's care plan and kept up on her fees until she was up to $7,000 before we moved her out, and I refused to pay it. We tried to meet with the director but she never made it a point to set up appointments so we couldn't get anywhere with her. To this day, I had to talk to the assistant director for all the problems because we never could get to the director and I tried three or four times.

The experience with Brookdale Chapel Hill was excellent. I'm very glad she's there. She was in another community, which we were very unhappy with. Fortunately we were able to get her in Brookdale. I really liked the setup that they have. It's an older building but it's much more home-like. They had small dining areas for the residents in each hallway. They had lots of activities. The administration was very responsive and active with the residents. The staff seemed to be very happy. What really stood out to me was the small dining areas, the staff being happy, the clean place, the good food, and the responsive administration. When we went to visit, they set it up so we could have a private conversation. We had lunch with my sister once, and we had a conversation with the residents without the staff being there. I thought that was very clever. They were very welcoming and had good-sized rooms and everything. I am very pleased with it. The food was institutional but well-prepared and had choices. I noticed there was a lady who was having a hard time and didn't like what they had available, but they were very pleasant about finding her something she could eat.
