We liked that The Manor was sort of a hotel line where you walk in and get checked at the desk. And we like the freedom that the residents have; we enjoyed that. The one problem that we had with it was that my mother would have been a long distance from where they would be having their meals to where her designated room would have been. The dining room was very neat, pretty and attractive. The atmosphere feels more like a hotel. The staff was very kind and answered all of our questions.

The Manor was beautiful. It's absolutely exquisite. If I had the extra $1,000 a month I would be there in a heartbeat. It had everything. It had granite countertops, lots of closets, and great wall space. It is a place to go, and it does not have a built-in meal plan. So you're paying $2,400 a month without the meals. The washer-dryer is another $45 and the TV is $60. The rooms were magnificent and big. It's like you're walking into your own home. The bottom floor had 11-foot ceilings. They had balconies, patios, and a beautiful kitchen. They also had a dining room. The 2-bedroom was absolutely exquisite. The privacy was a lot better because you would be walking into a different building. It's not like the staff is right there. They'd have to go outdoors to get to you. The food was good and the dining room staff was wonderful. They give you two choices every night for dinner.

My mother is at The Laurels & The Haven in the Village at Carolina Place. Her room is clean and big enough for her to have a sitting area and a bed. It's not just a square, so that was nice. She occasionally says they have something she can eat, but she usually says it's not very good. They have exercising, crafts, music, and bingo. They have good activities. I like all the staff except for one nurse that's kind of rude.

The Manor is extremely elegant. It's a very nice place. The staff was OK. They have several different meal plans. You can either sign up for the meals or not depending on your wishes. If you do not sign up for regular meals, you can still have a meal any time you want to, but you'll be charged for it. They offer exercises and other activities. They have a common area where they gather. The day I was there they were going to have an art show in the evening, and the arts were done by the residents. The available apartments were very large. They're the largest of everything I looked at, however, The Manor was probably the most expensive place I saw.

My sister has been in The Laurels & The Haven in the Village at Carolina Place for two months now. It's pretty much one of the best places I've seen so far. It has two separate units. One unit is The Laurels for assisted living and The Haven is a separate building split into three, which keeps communities small and very manageable. I'm incredibly impressed with everything from the food to the care, the CNAs and the nurses. They seem on top of things pretty well. I have no complaints. They set up meetings with the doctors, they have a hairdresser, and they have all kinds of activities going on out there. It's pretty much the best place. They have proved to be an absolutely wonderful facility so far. I had my sister in a private room. She was always in this other woman's room. She's 95 and very sweet, and they connected well, so they moved my sister in there, which was a great idea. I couldn't be happier. The staff is absolutely wonderful. The food is fantastic. They stay pretty busy with activities. They keep them going. I went out there and I just felt like this is it out of all the hundreds of homes I've looked at. It just clicked for me.
