This is an affordable facility, and my mother is getting very good care from the aids in her villa. They are friendly and helpful, and provide good meals and food for the residents. The administration/management, however, is very poor about getting information to the family of residents. It is sometimes difficult to know who to contact because of turnover in the past year or two.

My Dad has been very lonely. He was hesitant about moving to an assisted living. This is the best thing he’s ever done. These people really do care and it is apparent. He considers them family which makes things a lot easier on us. He loves the food, fun and friends he’s made. This gives me peace of mind.

We toured The Landing of Canton Assisted Living & Memory Care for my mother-in-law. It was really a good tour, and we liked it a lot. Stacy and Diana, the people who gave us the tour, were absolutely pleasant. The facility and the rooms are beautiful. We liked everything about it. The drawback is that they don't take Medicaid, so it is private pay. It was great; they were wonderful there. They offer a one-bedroom, a deluxe one-bedroom, and a studio, and they were all really pretty. They have arts and crafts, they have movies, they do some gardening, and they are able to bake cookies with the help of the employees. They have outings, and they have things planned for outings. They are kind of different in that they don't look like a nursing home; it looks more like a restaurant-type of setting, so that is a nice feature. They did not offer us a meal, but they did send us a container of cookies that they had baked.

We went to the campus of Windsor Medical Center. We only got in the door and into the conference room and met with their admissions directors. She had some videos taken with her iPhone to show us and was able to project them on a large screen TV that was available. Although we didn't see the actual units that were available, we got to see them on a video in person, and it was a pretty decent experience. They went through all the pre-screening questions, like wear your masks, social distancing, and all the other protocols that would be expected were in place. The main reason we selected them for my mom was they have a full skilled nursing facility, so there's more continuity of care. If and when she needs to spend some time in a skilled nursing facility, she could be basically moved back and forth without having to truly move her to another facility and then bring her back when she's released. It seemed to be a very nice facility with a very comparable price. They were possibly less expensive than some of the ones that have a lot of the individual ala carte services. They have some add-on services, but it wasn't six layers. It was just a couple of things that might apply to her, certainly med pass would be one. I had also asked them to only show us the room options that they had available at that time, because they had four or five different options. We saw a large studio, a 1-bedroom, a medium 1-bedroom, and a large bedroom. Everything was updated, nice, very clean looking, and it sounds like that they've replaced all the carpeting. They still have their salon open, too, and from a standpoint of being a female going in, we could opt for how frequently, if at all, she would want to go to a beauty shop. They have activities going on, but they're just more with social distancing at this point. They normally do a social hour with snacks, as well as actual alcoholic drinks once a week. Once they get through their second round of COVID vaccine, which they expect to have done in February, then that's something they would immediately be restarting. Although the alcohol for my mom makes no difference, the social act would be nice. It's just that, everything that I saw was a video, and there was one other place where I could go on and physically pick up floor plans in additon to being able to see videos. It would probably be a 5 if it weren't for COVID, but I give them a 4 for now because they did the best of anybody that we talked to.

My mom went to Allay Senior Care. It's an Alzheimer's unit. She is actually doing fine. The staff are mostly helpful. We're not allowed to go in and see her. It is not great right now, but it is what it is. They're doing lots of social activities inside, but nobody is allowed to come in. They have an ice cream social and they do lots of artsy stuff with her. I don't really know very much other than that because we're not allowed to come in. The food is good. It's bland, but it's good for them. The cleanliness is all good. Everything is good.
