rooms are tiny, phones were not installed in residents rooms, food was very institutional like, frozen types of food etc. no way to contact your loved one. phones at desk not answered. Inability of staff to recognize warning symptoms and signs and/or vital signs not taken. Other non- elderly residents allowed to wander into others rooms. They may have remodeled the rooms but care is minimal. No private bathrooms for resident, shared facilities, no private bathrooms or showers in rooms. May be ok for someone who has no health issues to be monitored by staff and is ok to be alone and/or is capable of self care.

My wife has been in Hillspring Health Care & Rehab. It's a nice place. She is on Medicaid also. With the COVID thing, they're not having people in their dining rooms, and they're serving meals in the rooms. She tells me she is getting therapy a couple of times a week. They seem to be taking good care of her. I can't get in right now, and the last time I saw her was last year when we were able to get in to see her. They brought her out onto a covered patio where we had to social distance. We talked back and forth, and she didn't like that. They also said we could do a face-to-face over one of their computers. I don't have a computer right now, I got a large tablet that I use, and I couldn't do that, but she doesn't want to do that either. It's a shared room and there's two of them. I don't think they're doing activities right now, but she didn't participate in that when she could anyway. I don't know what cognitive therapy she is getting there. They have one large room with all their things in there that you can do exercises on, they have a beauty salon, and she has done that about twice since she has been there.

My experience of having my dad at Central Parke Assisted Living & Memory Care, so far, has been good. It's a lot better than the other place I visited, and my dad is doing good. He likes it there. He loves his room, and he said they feed him well. It's purely memory care, that's why I moved him because the other ones had independent living, assisted living and nursing home. We haven't really been able to go in because of the virus. We go to a room to visit him, but as far as being able to have lunch with him or anything, we're not able to do that at this time. The staff was very informative, and they care much about their residents. They spend a lot of time with them rather than just letting them sit around. I like that they have activities, and they're very involved with their residents. They have a community type person that does all kinds of stuff with them. They have a calendar that comes out once a month, and it gives them all the activities that they do that day. They have mind games and baking. The building itself is only 5 years old; it's new, so it's nice.

Spring Hills Middletown was a great place, and they were upfront about not being able to take care of someone at my dad's level. It was warm and felt like family. The dining room was set up so that everybody ate at the same time, so you were able to sit at the table with the same people. So it got familiar, you develop friends that you could talk to on a regular basis. You end up feeling more of a family there than any other place. Their amenities were nice, they had bingo, and there were jigsaw puzzles all over the place. It was set up in the long halls with chairs frequently. So a lot of people with walkers could walk and sit when they get tired. Everybody was just affectionate and knew dad by name which always blew him away. It was a wonderful experience. We like that they were upfront and they don't market themselves as something they weren't. The food and facilities were beautiful.

My mother-in-law is now at Spring Hills Middletown. It is very good and it is everything she needs. The staff members are fantastic. The food is fantastic and the dining area is like a restaurant. They do bingo, they do arts and crafts, and they have someone come and play the piano.

My mother is in Charter Senior Living of Bowling Green. It's real good and they do a fine job with her. Her room is kept clean. They have activities like bingo, cards, and water aerobics. I've eaten there twice and it was good. They have a library, playing card station, pool table, swimming pool, and a garden.

We chose to move my dad to Spring Hills Middletown because it was closer to me and it's a very nice facility. They have a nice menu and they have a large variety of food that they serve in their dining room. The rooms are very nice and warm. The people are very friendly. We've been very happy with it to date.

Medicaid is the nationwide health coverage program designed to extend basic health services, such as emergency and acute care, primary care and long-term care, to those who have a low income and few resources. In Ohio, a Medicaid-expansion state, three out of five nursing home residents are covered by Medicaid and 74% of seniors meet Medicaid-eligibility requirements. Seniors who are seeking Medicaid coverage must meet income and asset (resource) limits. Individuals can earn up to $2,313 per month and own up to $2,000 in countable assets, while couples applying together can earn up to $4,626 a month and own up to $3,000 in countable assets. Qualified Income Trust Seniors who earn more than the current Medicaid limits may be able to qualify for Medicaid coverage by entering into a legal agreement with the state known as a Qualified Income Trust. Also called a Miller Trust, seniors can deposit their excess income into a QIT in order to lower their declared income to achieve Medicaid eligibility. Upon death, any money in the QIT is payable to the state of Ohio. For more information on the QIT contact Automated Health Systems at (844) 265-4722. Ohio Assisted Living Waiver Seniors who are covered by Medicaid and require help performing one or more activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, using the toilet and/or navigating their environment, may qualify for the Ohio Assisted Living waiver. This Medicaid waiver program covers the cost of care for eligible seniors within an assisted living facility to prevent or delay nursing home placement. If approved, seniors may be provided with one or more of the following supports:
Optional State Supplementation Seniors who collect Supplemental Security Income benefits and reside in an assisted living facility may be eligible for additional monthly benefits through the Optional State Supplementation program. Under the OSS, individual seniors may receive up to $1,180 in combined monthly SSI/OSS payments, while couples may receive up to $2,170. For more information on the OSS contact the Social Security Administration at (800) 772-1213.
