My mother will be moving into Summerfield Estates. She liked the energy of the people there. The person doing the tour was awesome. The dining area was very spacious, wide, very pleasant, and the food was very good. They were doing some chair yoga and every Wednesday they go on a field trip. After touring the facility, she stayed there for two nights and decided to move in.

Summerfield Estates is a much older building. They have Bingo, exercise classes, other kinds of activities, and they have pet therapy where people bring their dogs in and we play with them. It's a nice community. The residents are very friendly, but they are older. They have a library, and they take us on bus trips once a week. The food is good and adequate. Their desserts are very good. We get three meals and I have a very small kitchen with just a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink. It's not really secure here.

Bonaventure of Tigard was better and fancier. The people that I saw in the office were wonderful. They seemed very well organized with medications and giving me information. Dining was a lot more elegant. It looked more like a fine restaurant. They had places set at the table with a napkin in the glass. They had a theater and were showing a movie. Another day, they had a concert, and we got to hear someone on the piano. It was a very active place. They had exercise classes going on that I would be interested in, like chair yoga and balance exercise. However, if my husband had to go into memory care, the room was a big disappointment because it was dark. My experience with Alzheimer's is that they don't look out the window much anyway, but for me, if I'm going to live with my husband, I react strongly whether I have good lighting coming in or not.

Summerfield Estates was very dated, old, and rundown. They were doing some maintenance in the common areas. I wasn't greeted when I first walked in. There were two staff members chitchatting and I finally got their attention after standing there for a while. When I met with the marketing person, she took me back to a room that was evidently the greeting area for guests, but it was dark, had a table but no chairs, and there were nothing on the walls. It wasn't very inviting and I didn't have a good feeling about the place. The whole facility needed an upgrade. Even when I was sitting in the parking lot and started looking around the outside of the building, a lot of the windows were kind of dingy and not well-maintained. To me, that's indicative of things going on inside as well. I wouldn't go back there.

Bonaventure is a beautiful place. They had a nice place with a nice patio, and they were very clean and very friendly. We'd love to be there, but I can't afford it. The receptionist was very pleasant, the staff showed me a 1-bedroom, and it was a little small. The bathroom was very neat and clean, they had room for a microwave and a refrigerator. The residents seemed to be up and happy. I would highly recommend them.
