They do a good sell job but they can’t deliver. Staff is unhappy, food is bad, it’s filthy. We moved our loved one in less than 2 months after placement. Beware.

My mother is staying at Mustang Creek Estates. It's worked out really well and they update me weekly. The food is good, her apartment is also good. They have different activities and they also play games. They do various things and physical activities. There's a little courtyard place for them to sit.

Parkview in Allen was very nice, and that's probably the one that I liked the best. It had the right amenities for the right price. It was 3-stories, it's independent, and it's considered aging in place. You don't have to move facilities even if it's just next door or something like that. They tend to stay in their apartments. The tour was fine for what we were looking for. They were screening at the doors for temperatures. We went the day before Christmas, and the tour was guided by the salesperson. They followed up well. I liked it. I'd say in the last five years or so, that one was the newest that we'd seen, and it was very nice. They're very accommodating and the salesperson was far enough to know everything that I would need to know, and any questions that I had she was able to answer. We were interested in anything 1-bedroom at that time, but we saw one of the 2-bedrooms. They were all modern, and there was nobody in there at all. While we were walking through, they had somebody there singing with a guitar and they were socially distanced on the ground floor. They also had an open area up another floor that had a balcony, so people were sitting outside their doors and listening. They told us they had not had any Covid cases at all, so they say they're keeping that up, but they can possibly change.

I moved into Parkview in Allen 2-1/2 weeks ago. I love the apartments. They have individual apartments, and they're almost like any standalone apartment complex, but better. They also have cleaning service once a week. I have no complaints, and I think any senior person would like this particular location. The staff is wonderful, I have no problems. One additional thing that they have is the handicap accessories, which are wonderful. The only complaint I would have is the food and I will be addressing that. We just got here, so I need to just talk in particular with the kitchen or whoever manages their food selection about my particular diet, because I have a special diet. With the Covid, they're pretty much delivering the food because the dining room has limited space. I haven't really participated in any of the activities as of yet because of everything that's going on with Covid, but they seem to have a wide variety of guest speakers. At one time when I first moved in, they actually had a guest speaker that was just talking to the residents. I didn't participate because I was in the process of moving in. Other than that, they seem to have a little active activities person with a lot of active things that you can participate in. It's just that I haven't participated in any of it. They had laundry rooms too.

My mother has been at Mustang Creek Estates for 4 years. When she first moved here she was too slim and eating poorly. She was wasting away a a rapid rate. I was afraid she wouldn’t live another month. Since being at Mustang Crrek Estates in Allen, she has gained weight, eats regularly and the kind quality care she receives on a daily basis has extended her life. I sooo appreciate the facility’s attention and efficiency administered with empathy and sincere understanding. I can’t imagine a better place for a loved one. Thank you Mustang Creek!!!

I visited the Parkview in Allen, it would have been the number one choice, but they did not have the level of hands on assistance, and theyre a little bit larger, so that would have been a drawback for my mom. The facility was beautiful, very well-cared for, and updated. The staff was very nice, and the food was very good, but it was only independent living and doesnt have staff for day to day assistance. The staff was excellent, and the people in the dining room that we met were very friendly and accommodating. The layout was very easy because it was a big square, but it was large, and the apartment we were looking for her was quite a distance, so it was a little bit daunting for her. I thought the pricing was fair and average for the size of rooms.

I'm living at Parkview in Allen, it's a good place, and I'm very satisfied. They have everything. They have card games, bingo, and all types of activities. The staff is wonderful, they're good people, and everything is fine. It's just like any place. Sundays are not as good, but most days, it's good. We have a pool, a bus takes you where you need to go, like to a doctor or the store, but I drive. Everything is inclusive, except the cable TV and telephone.

Lack of compassion by aids. Have witnessed aids sitting around just talking while residents call out for help. I myself go to their aid then make aid attend to residents. They do not seem to care nor put much effort in caregiving which is unacceptable. W/D room dirty and unorganized. I cleaned washer mysel because there was an enormous caked up dirty build up powdered soap, disgusting! Had reported it to aids several times and Assistant Director but was ignored over 4 months. Resident dropped fork on floor and picked up to give to resident but I immediately said do not give him that fork, get him a clean one. High turnover in employees which I was told was not. Resident was falling while aid stood watching so I glad I was able to take hold of him and demanded a chair be put underneath him. Residents complain over an over again how aids do not care of their needs or concerns. Some are confused so I interact a lot to console them. Overall caregiving is far below average. Have gabled my mother many times without gloves. No sanitizer at entry of room so aids are going from one room to another entering room without sanitizing hands. Room cleaning 1 per week is not satisfactory. Have never cleaned mini blind or AC unit. Toilet area always has urine or a bit of poo on it. Vanity rarely cleaned because they have to pick up items to do so. I go twice a week to visit so I clean thoroughly, clean entire toilet since all they do is swish inside of bowel, then mop floor with cleaner. Laundry done unsatisfactory, put away very sloppy. Her room smells great but in some others the Oder is horrible. One resident sleeps in same cloths and she smells good fburine. Communiry shower has one small tub of 4 sqeegy body washer. These are used on 14 residents. Mom had 8 washcloths now none. Towels missing and now has someone else's!ragged ones. Do not handle mom correctly, always brushing her forearms. Do not put fresh bed pad on daily. Her stocked items has several bags open, empty bags left in closet floor. I could write a novel of complaint but it won't do a bit of good. Mom never complains and doesn't wear her call button around neck which I fuss about but they don't enforce. She and other residents say pages just ignore which is true. They do not put safety belt in her waist walking her to meals. She is very infirm now has to have escort to and from meals per physical therapist. Have found a great facility and movin mom out. I pray for all the seeet ines we will leave behind.

Medicaid is the jointly funded state and federal program that provides low-income individuals with access to essential health services, such as hospitalization, X-rays and long-term care. Medicaid is a nationwide entitlement program, therefore, enrollment is guaranteed for everyone who meets the eligibility criteria.
In Texas, Medicaid is administered through Health and Human Services and most programs are delivered through managed care organizations. To qualify for long-term coverage that includes access to home and community based services, seniors must:
Elderlife Financial Reverse Mortgage
Elderlife Financial is a licensed financial services provider that helps seniors access funds to pay for assisted living. Elderlife offers a reverse mortgage — a financial product that allows elderly homeowners to leverage the equity within their home.
To qualify for a reverse mortgage, the applicants must be aged 62 or older, and at least one homeowner must plan on remaining in the house. This can make a reverse mortgage a financial option for couples when only one spouse needs to move into assisted living.
In accordance with federal rules, all reverse mortgage applicants must complete HUD-endorsed financial counselling.

VA Aid and Attendance and Housebound
VA Aid and Attendance Benefits and VA Housebound Allowance are two VA cash benefit programs for veterans and survivors who qualify for a regular VA pension and are either permanently disabled (doesn’t have to be service related) or have a chronic condition that restricts their ability to care for themselves.
For the Housebound Allowance, veterans and survivors must have a permanent disability that prevents them from leaving their home most of the time.
For the Aid and Attendance Benefit, veterans and survivors must have either a severe visual impairment, be bedridden most of the time, live in a nursing facility or need help from a caregiver to perform activities of daily living.
Note: Successful applicants can receive benefits from only one of these two programs.
