My mother has moved into Dogwood Estates, and it's been good. The staff is very nice and very helpful. She is in a studio, but they also have one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. They have exercise, bingo, and Skip-Bo, bible studies. It's a little bit of everything. There's also a courtyard area. She said the food is very good.

My visit to Dogwood Estates was very nice. They keep their people very active. They offer a lot of programs. They have a calendar with all their different activities. Their food was delicious. The rooms were a little small for me, but they're nice, and they're all anybody would need. The place was very clean. The staff was delightful and I enjoyed being around them. They acted so professional, yet so inviting. It was top notch.

Dogwood Estates was nice enough and it's the place my mother is probably going to choose. I didn't have much interaction with the staff, but it was good. The amenities were good, and they include e a salon. The rooms were really nice, and she seemed to like them.

Willow Bend was an excellent facility, very clean, and very modern. The people were very nice. The nurse who showed me around was very accommodating and very friendly. The memory care unit has a service pet, and in one room there were some women doing makeup class, and in another room people were playing cards and games. Everybody seemed happy. They were talking and having a good time.

My parents moved into Willow Bend assisted Living. I met with the sales director, she was very knowledgeable about the facility, she walked us around, and it was bright and airy. They have one specific room that was perfect for my parents. They have exercise classes, library, singing, and games.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Denton
Medicaid in Texas
Texas’ Medicaid plan helps low-income Texans, including senior citizens and those with disabilities, access quality health care services. The plan covers a wide range of expenses including primary care, hospital inpatient and emergency services, laboratory tests, prescription medications and mental health services.
Seniors who hope to qualify for Medicaid in Texas should be aged 65 or older. They’re limited to an income of $771 per month ($1,157 for married couples), and $2,000 in countable assets ($3,000 for married couples). Texas Medicaid counts all income sources when determining an applicant’s eligibility; however, some assets are exempt including the applicant’s house, car and personal belongings, such as household furnishings and clothing. Seniors who don’t qualify financially may be able to access the program via Texas’ Medicaid spend-down program, which allows applicants with excessive medical expenses to pay their health care bills and count the remaining income toward eligibility requirements.

Community Care for the Aged and Disabled

The program is open to seniors who don’t receive assistance from Medicaid, and while it’s meant to cover the cost of home care services, it does work with some seniors who reside in assisted living facilities.
To be eligible for CCAD, seniors must be at least 60 years of age and it must be determined by a doctor that they require daily care. They must have a maximum income of $2,250 per month and no more than $5,000 in countable assets. They also must not be eligible for Medicaid.
To apply, seniors can call the Aging and Disability Resource Center at (855) 937-2372.

The amount of the benefit varies depending on the recipient’s living arrangement and is typically $60 per month for those residing in Medicaid facilities.
