I transferred from a different facility to Ridgmar due to not getting the care that I needed. Ridgmar is fantastic! Their medical team is outstanding!! They really care about their clients and their well-being. I was there for almost 2 months and I was very well taken care of. I was in a head on collision. I cannot say enough good things about this facility. Their physical therapy team got me to the point where I could go home. I am now walking with a walker and as soon as their outpatient therapy starts I will be going back there for more therapy. I want to thank Ridgmar for all that they have done for me and my family to get me well!

I'd been to The Waterford at Fort Worth. It was great. I explained it to my mother and she was excited about being able to do it, but we couldn't afford it. She's on a fixed budget. It was a little bit out of our price range. The lady was really nice. I talked to her several times since then, and she has followed up with me several times. I liked her. The place was really nice and clean. She showed me the apartment that my mom would potentially move into. It was on the first floor like my mother wanted. The staff during the tour was definitely really good. I just had a quick in and out tour, and we wore masks. I can't really explore everything, but I really enjoyed it. There were people out in the living room and talking. It was homey.

We toured Oak Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center. We weren't quite ready for everything they were dealing with. They're dealing with quite a few people who were having some significant memory issues, a variety of physical and mental issues, and we aren't just ready for that. The person who accommodated us was very nice. They had movies, games, and they had an athletic facility.

I went to The Waterford at Fort Worth. It's nice, the staff who assisted me was very informative, and she gave me the tour. They still have ongoing activities, of course they follow procedures, wearing a mask, and all that. They have certain arts and crafts, bingo, church services, but limited.

We went to The Waterford at Fort Worth in person. It was very, very nice. The thing is Mom wants to take her puppy with her. There's so many areas for the pets, but Mom would have to cross a parking lot for her yorkie to go do his job. For somebody who doesn't have a dog, it's awesome, but for somebody who has a dog, it's a little dangerous. They have two different exits to let the dogs out, but both of them are a little bit on the unsafe side for elderly people. Other than that, it is awesome. They invited us for lunch. They have a small convenience store there where they can go and pick up stuff. We met some residents, and they highly recommended this place too. It was wonderful, it wasn't just the right place. Everything was clean. People were so nice and caring. It was really wonderful.

My wife moved into Mirabella Assisted Living three weeks ago. Compared to where she was, it is a castle. It is just a really nice community. They have a nice dining room where they serve three balanced nutritious meals. Access for me is unrestricted; I can come and go as I pleased. It is a convenient location for me, too. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. My wife got a studio. There is not a lot of room but it is plenty for her. It is a bit of a stretch for our budget but we are managing. They offer laundry service. They have done a couple of loads for us but mostly I bring the laundry home and do that myself. They recently have an outbreak of flu there, so they have shut the dining room down and everybody has been encouraged to stay in their rooms. They take their meals to them until they can get this all under control. I'm really grateful for that step because that has helped people from getting really sick. They do everything they can to get proper care. My wife hasn't participated in any activities, but I know they have bingo night once or twice a week, they have outings that take those who want to go out to see things or to go shopping. They got a nice car where they take one or two people, and then they have a nice bus where they take a large group in. The staff is really excellent. I have yet to see somebody out in the hall that doesn't have a smile or a 'hello and how are you?' The structure is not new but it is very well maintained. They are in the process of doing some renovation in some areas. They're doing their part to keep the place as nice as it is possible.

My mother is in Mirabella Assisted Living. I liked the location and the facilities. It has a good feel to it. The nurses and the staff that I saw on-hand seemed very nice and upbeat. The food is pretty good. They have karaoke, outdoor grills, courtyards for people to go outside if they want to get fresh air, a nice lobby, they play TV in there, and they have arts and crafts going on. It's pretty well rounded.

Mirabella Assisted Living is disappointing. It's beautiful on the outside but on the inside, it looks like it needs some love and care. The staff was very nice and the dining room was nice. My main concern was that the carpet looked old, and it could use some attention. It felt more institutional.

In Fort Worth, the Texas Medicaid program is available to adults over 65 and those with disabilities. Benefits of Medicaid for long-term care include nursing home care, home care, community programs and doctor’s visits. Medicaid doesn’t directly cover assisted living costs, but the STAR+PLUS program below may help.
To qualify for long-term Medicaid services, single Texas residents must make less than $2,313 per month and have less than $2,000 in cash, savings, bonds or other countable assets. Eligible married couples should have a maximum combined income of $4,626 per month and no more than $3,000 in countable assets.
Texas residents who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are also eligible for Medicaid benefits, including doctor’s visits, hospital care, prescription medications and dental care. Additionally, residents who are working and have a disability, but do not live full time in a care facility, can make monthly payments through a buy-in option to receive benefits. Residents can apply for Medicaid benefits online or call 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905.
Texas’ STAR+PLUS Program
Texas residents 65 and older, who are approved for Medicaid, can benefit from the STAR+PLUSprogram, which provides managed care and service coordination through a medical plan of their choosing. Residents of Fort Worth and Tarrant County can choose between Amerigroup and HealthSpring medical plans, and they may reside in an assisted living home, nursing home or private residence. Eligible residents enrolled in Medicaid will receive a STAR+PLUS enrollment packet in the mail and should return the enrollment form indicating their selected health plan within 30 days of receipt.
Community First Choice (CFC)
The Texas CFC program provides financial assistance to residents who need an institutional level of care and are financially eligible for Medicaid. Services include personalized help with activities of daily living, support management and skill enhancement for independent living. For questions about enrollment, email: MCD_CFC@hhsc.state.tx.us.
Community Care for Aged/Disabled (CCAD)
Texas residents meeting specific eligibility requirements, who are not enrolled in Medicaid, can receive personal care assistance through the CCAD program. Participants must have limited financial resources and may not live in a nursing facility, but they can reside in an assisted living home or their own personal residence. This program is administered by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). To apply for these services, contact the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Tarrant County by email: tarrantcountyadrc@gmail.com or call: (855)-937-2372.
