In Fort Worth, the Texas Medicaid program is available to adults over 65 and those with disabilities. Benefits of Medicaid for long-term care include nursing home care, home care, community programs and doctor’s visits. Medicaid doesn’t directly cover assisted living costs, but the STAR+PLUS program below may help.
To qualify for long-term Medicaid services, single Texas residents must make less than $2,313 per month and have less than $2,000 in cash, savings, bonds or other countable assets. Eligible married couples should have a maximum combined income of $4,626 per month and no more than $3,000 in countable assets.
Texas residents who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are also eligible for Medicaid benefits, including doctor’s visits, hospital care, prescription medications and dental care. Additionally, residents who are working and have a disability, but do not live full time in a care facility, can make monthly payments through a buy-in option to receive benefits. Residents can apply for Medicaid benefits online or call 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905.
