Our family had a horrible experience here. We were told medications would be the last resort and this was not true. The physician who comes to this facility to see residents wouldn\'t listen to our concerns or wants. In fact when we asked to taper off meds he increased them. Our LO was placed on some heavy duty psych meds and they had never taken any of this type of medication before. We were told that the residents would be active throughout the day and most of the time when we came to visit the residents were sitting around, watching tv or in their rooms. We believed we were getting the best based on the monthly rate for this place and the promises made during the tour. Our LO was accused of \"aggressive\" behavior which basically was due to them being asked to leave other resident\'s rooms. They leave the resident\'s rooms unlocked throughout the day so it\'s no wonder they wander around into places they shouldn\'t be. We were told our LO needed an inpatient psychiatric admission. At that point we went to go pick up our LO and all of their belongings because we were fed up with their poor care. We wrote to the administration after about all of our concerns and never received a reply. We sent it certified so we know it was received. Our LO was there less than 3 months and they would not refund any of the $1500 move-in fee. Also, the turnover here is ridiculous. Staff would leave and we would have no explanation. I\'ve recently learned their admissions director is now at another facility, too. The end of our story was we took our LO home and they were perfectly fine. We found another facility where they are happy and well cared for. There are no heavy meds in place and no need to go to a psych facility. For the $6500 monthly rate at Bader House you definitely do not get what you pay for and they take no accountability. It\'s a beautiful facility but that means nothing if they residents are not well cared for. I hope this will help another family avoid a bad experience.

I thought Sunrise of Plano was very nice and very well kept. The people there were very friendly and very helpful. I went first thing in the morning, and people were just starting to get up and around, so I haven't had a chance to visit it when there are a lot of people out, but everything was kept very clean. I like the rooms. They were very nice. Aside from the pricing being a bit expensive, the only thing was it didn't include cable and landlines, but only Wi-Fi, so you were going to have to spend extra on that. The independent living only provided two meals a day, which isn't a really big deal because most elderly people only eat two meals a day anyway, so that was okay. I liked that they took pets, and they were very good about that, because my mother has a cat. Overall, the facility was really nice. It was very bright, and there was a lot of light coming in. The menu options that they had were really good, and the grounds were really nice. I met four people there, and they were all very friendly, and everyone I met there had a lot of seniority. They had all been with the facility for at least nine years, which I liked. It would be a nice facility for my mom, but her financial fund is quite limited, so I may have to look for some options that are a little bit less expensive.

My sister, my wife, and I toured The Waterford at Plano and it was an excellent experience. We spent some time with Stephanie and Missy, who was the supervisor or general manager of Waterford, and they were very nice and answered all our questions. We toured a studio and a one-bedroom apartment in the assisted living, and then when we talked further about my mother, they said, "Look, she does not require what is needed. She could live in the independent living." My mother is able to dress herself and take showers by herself, so we determined that independent living would be fine for her, and that's where we went and toured a one-bedroom apartment in that section. It was very clean and they were getting it ready for the next resident. We brought my mother to look at it shortly thereafter, and she loved the common areas, the dining, the exercise places, and just meeting people. Being told what the activities were she really wants to take part in the physical exercise activities and other social events. Everything worked out well. They had a special going on where February was basically free, from $20.21, and we're going to sign all the papers. We'll get her moved in probably soon. We also know people who have stayed there through a friend, and they liked the food a lot. We also read some reviews and people seemed to like it. The menu looked very good. They seemed to have a lot of offerings and flexibilities for people as needed. The facility was very well kept, very clean, the decor was very nice.

My father is at The Waterford at Plano. It's excellent so far, and I'm very happy. I think the staff is great, warm, caring, friendly, and very helpful. He's very comfortable. He has a very nice sized apartment, it's clean, neat, and everything's great. I've eaten there as well. The food is nutritional, well-balanced, cooked and seasoned very well. He's a little limited on activities because he's vision impaired, but they have plenty of activities. He is able to participate in some of them, so I give them good marks on that as well. He's been there a week, and I think everything is just going great. I have no complaints, and I think they're all doing a wonderful job. It's a great facility. They make you feel very welcome, they're very attentive, and they take good care of you.

Brookdale Creekside was very nice, but I couldn't afford it. It was kind of depressing because all they had was memory care, and my husband is still somewhat active. There wouldn't be many there he could communicate or do anything with. The lady staff was very nice, helpful, kind, and explained everything about their facility very well. The bathrooms and showers were very small, and you had to go down the hall for bigger shower facilities, and I didn't really like that part. They had memory games set up around the facility.

We were very impressed with Sunrise of Plano. The place was excellent, it was lovely, and very nice. We went to check the independent portion of it. The place was clean and nothing caught our eye. The staff who gave us the tour was fine. She was a lovely lady who was knowledgeable and very pleasant.

Brookdale Collin Oaks was an older place, but it was OK, and they kept it clean. We went for lunch, which was good. The person who gave us the tour was nice. The room I saw was roomy and spacious enough.

My mother is at the Prestonwood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. The care has been fine. I have no issues except that they're very expensive. They have group activities and individual exercises. I'm very satisfied with the cleanliness and upkeep. Her room is acceptable and the size is OK. She has a private room, and every room has a window, so you get good natural light. The staff is accommodating, but there could be an improved response time when she hits her call button for assistance. She likes the food. The facility has an institutional feel.

Sunrise of Plano was nice, but the food was not all that good. The staff was fine. They had exercise programs, but not many activities going on at that time. The dining area was nice. The room size and layout were fine, really pretty, and light.

By law, every Medicaid plan must include specific mandatory benefits:
Elderlife Financial Assisted Living Bridge Loan
Seniors who need money to finance a move into an assisted living community may be eligible for an assisted living bridge loan through Elderlife Financial.
This short-term (12 month) loan gives seniors access to the cash they need to pay for their care while waiting for their home to sell or for insurance benefits to begin covering their care costs. The loan is set up as a line of credit, therefore, monthly payments are interest-only based on the loan balance, and the loan can be paid off at any time without penalty
To qualify for an assisted living bridge loan applicants must have a high credit score. Up to six people can be listed on the loan application, and in most cases the lender provides a response within 24 hours.
To learn more or apply over the phone at no cost, contact Elderlife Financial Services at (888) 228-4500.
VA Aid and Attendance and Housebound
Veterans and their survivors who qualify for a regular (nondisabled) VA pension may receive additional cash benefits through Aid and Attendance or Housebound. These two VA pension top-up programs are open to eligible applicants who have a permanent disability that’s unrelated to service or caused by a chronic illness.
To qualify for Housebound, applicants must have a permanent disability that restricts them to their principal residence, which may be an assisted living facility, most of the time.
To qualify for Aid and Attendance, applicants must have either:
