Nice apartment. Perfect location near medical and restaurants and shops. But food service needs to be improved. Took 70 minutes to get tonight’s supper because only one person in kitchen preparing meals for 50 residents. That’s what waitress said when I scolded her.

I'm moving into the Atria at the Arboretum. I didn't get to have a meal there because of COVID, but I made the tour, and I chose a very nice apartment. I'm looking forward to the move. The staff who showed us around was very pleasant and very informative. I appreciated the atmosphere that I saw. Everything was very clean, bright, and homey. I like the courtyard, and as I went up to the fourth floor where my room will be, I enjoyed the view. I appreciate the amenities. I was especially interested in the food. I would have liked to have sampled a meal, but that wasn't possible. I talked to the director who came out and met me, and I told him that was one of the concerns that I had. That's one of the reasons that I was making the move, but they assured me that it was going to be great. I hope and I think it will be. I think it's classy. I love the neighborhood that it's in. I just felt very comfortable. The staff was very open and answered our questions. The carpet in the apartment that I saw was very clean and bright, and the appliances were new. It was just a very pleasant experience. Everyone I met was very pleasant.

I have visited and toured Brookdale North Austin. The feel was very good, everybody seemed happy, and very friendly. It was very nice. The rooms were small, but they were adequate. They answered all my questions. I was happy with the tour. I saw this place in the morning, so they were just gathering around the front area, but have no actual activity at that time. They have a nice outside area, a patio, some places to sit. The rooms were adequate, but I have seen bigger and nicer rooms. And I think it is an older facility.

Brookdale North Austin looked OK and I know it has a good reputation, but it didn't have that outside entrance, and it would've been hard for my husband. He still drives, but even if we had to go pick him up, it would be too far of a walk from the room to the outside where the cars are. One of our priorities was mobility, and then the second one was to be close to where three of the kids live. The location would've been fine for us, but the mobility was the issue. I saw the outside and we looked in the window of the unit, but I couldn't go in. The person that showed me around was very nice. It's just on Duval on the main street. It's like a motel, and it's a little bit overpriced.

Brookdale North Austin had an older feel to it. I know a person who lives there, and she has a nice sized room, but it doesn't have any kitchen facility in it. It's just a room with a bathroom. I saw the dining area, but everything looked a little older. It has a really nice outside area with big trees that you can walk around. The facility looked clean.

Two months ago, my 90-year-old parents moved to Elan from an independent living retirement community in Houston. Even with this major change in their lives, they have been very satisfied with Elan. The staff is warm and responsive, the health care quality is good, the property sits next to a field with trees and is conveniently located close to Southpark Meadows. My brother and I visited several assistive living communities in Austin that were also impressive, but we chose Elan because of its qualities, convenience, and proximity to me. My parents, my brother, and I all feel that we made the best choice.

The Continental Retirement Community was super nice, and we hoped to go there. They had pretty good, big rooms and pretty much have the same amenities in our current community, like a game room, weight lifting room, and a place where you could do a few things on your own.

Conservatory at North Austin was a lovely place and very welcoming. The lunch we had was very good. The staff was fine and we had a good experience. The rooms were mostly apartments; lovely 1- or 2-bedrooms. The facilities were excellent. They have a pool, which was a big attraction. The place was very convenient since we live in the same part of the city.
