Our experience with Royal Estates of Wichita Falls started out great and ended up horrible. For a year and a half, we fought with them over fleas and tics in the room and bed bugs. The food started out terrific, but once they lost their chef, it went down. They had a good line-up of activities, but it wasn't anything my sister-in-law was involved in. They had amenities like a salon, and they allowed pets. The problem was she didn't have a pet, but her room continued to get infested with fleas and tics. Even after spraying, they kept coming back. We found out that they kept coming back through the window, that's why we moved her. The facility itself looked nice though.

My friend has been at Royal Estates of Wichita Falls for almost a year. The people there are very nice, the rooms are nice, he just doesn't like the food. The food is not up to par, but it's a nice place. They're having a lot of problems with their staff. They lost the CEO and they hired someone new and he lasted about six weeks and they fired him. A lot of staff members are leaving. For a while, the new CEO was helping wash dishes. They didn't have enough people in the kitchen to even take care of that, so he jumped in to do that. Right now, they're looking for someone else to replace him. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes. They have hired a few new people, I've seen some new people there. My friend likes to have good food. In fact, just about every day, we'd go out to eat somewhere because he just doesn't like the food there. It's a nice place, and they've got friendly people. He has a 1-bedroom apartment. They have activities, they've got games and they take them to Wal-Mart. They have karaoke and singing, bible studies, an exercise room, a library, and a courtyard where you can walk. I think it's a quarter-mile if you go around the whole property. They have a place where you can park your car under a shelter and he has one of those spots. It's near a highway, so it gets a little noisy sometimes due to traffic. The staff has all been very cordial, very helpful, you can ask them questions, and they seem fine. Price is probably at par with most of the places in town. If you can afford it, the value for money would be a 5/5, if you don't have a lot of money, it would be a 4/5. My friend pays through Patriot Angels, so he is able to afford to live there because of them. They've got pull cords in every room, they clean his room, change his bed sheets and linens and wash them, and they vacuum the floor once a week. He can call 24 hours a day for anything. If he wants to call at 3:00 in the morning and ask for a glass of orange juice, they say, "Pull the cord, we'll be happy to come up." As far as stuff like that, I think they're good. Other than the food, they're fine. They could have guests before, and I've eaten there a couple of times back in March. But since then, visitors can't come into the dining room anymore.

It seemed a little bit more upscale than others. They had a lake behind it and gardens in the back that were really colorful and pretty. They had a wall for the veterans that were there. They had a calendar of activities and a large craft room, and they would go to special restaurants once a week. The residents were friendly and seemed happy. The room shown to us was well kept.

My mom was in this facility for about 3 months. The place was dirty, stinky and the poor little people were always at the front door, a lot of them crying and moaning. The building has obviously not been remodeled in a long time. It is very dark. The staff, when available, seemed to be there to collect a pay check, except for Jamie, that girl worked her butt off all the time. The courtyard and the plant room were beautiful. I would not recommend this place to anybody for their loved ones!
