I thought that Legacy Village of Provo looked nice, it's just more money than we'd be able to spend. The people that I talked to were very nice and pleasant. They showed me a couple of studios, then I saw the eating area and things like that, and they were very clean. I saw their game or puzzle room; they showed me a sitting room, library, the lunchroom , and the meeting room as well. It looked really clean and well-maintained; they were cleaning the carpets when we were there.

Legacy Village of Provo was very nice. It had all the amenities that I need, and all the activities that I would enjoy. Their dining hall looked very good, too. Their apartment is just a little smaller than what I have right now, but it would work and shouldn't be a problem. The price was also good, and they treated me well. The staff was only able to show me the one-bedroom. I was more interested in the two-bedroom, but it was still really nice. They have movies, people who come in to perform, bingo, a game time that they organized, and a pool table. Their location is kind of perfect for where I would want to be, because it's right down from that college. I can go up to the canyons and down to the river to fish.

My mother has moved into Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living. The staff is friendly. They showed us different room layouts, and we also met some of the residents. They have laundry facilities on each floor, a library, an activity room, a computer area, a beauty salon, and two duck ponds. She participated in a lot of activities. We ended up getting a pretty good sized studio for her with a large walk-in closet.

We toured Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living. It was very nice, very high-quality, very clean, and appeared to be very well-staffed. The staff that we spoke with gave us a tour and answered our questions were very responsive. The dining area looks like a fine dining restaurant. They had a library and beauty salon.

I was impressed with Courtyard at Jamestown. I was able to speak to some other people who lived there, and they seemed happy, so it sounded great to me. It was very clean, had modern amenities, and it looked like they'd be comfortable. They have on-site nursing staff, a barber and beauty salon, and laundry services. It looked like they had nice menu choices, and the food was excellent. They had bingo and can go to the swimming pool across the street. It was well-decorated with colonial style. The rooms were nice and comfortable and had modern amenities. They had smaller rooms, but they have 40 different floor plans. The staff seemed very caring.

We visited Courtyard at Jamestown and we're on a waiting list. It was great and we really felt good there. The meals are excellent and they have a very good chef. The rooms are very nice, they have a lot of activities, they have a family center where you can do genealogy, and our friends are very interested in that. They go on bus rides up the canyon to see the different seasons of the year. They take them to the temple and grocery shopping. The staff member, Marcie, was very nice. She was very good.

Legacy Village of Provo was very nice, and the 2-bedroom apartments there were bigger than the others, but it did not have a warm friendly feeling. The staff was very nice, the dining area was good, we ate there, and the food was good. There was a lady playing the piano, and she was really good. There were several people listening to her. They take them on trips, likes on drives up the canyon and to go grocery shopping.

Cove Point is excellent. They have been so good and my friend loves it there. Everybody's really friendly and it's a very nice place. The food is good. They really are taking good care of her. They have church services, a women's group, movies, they take you places like shopping or appointments, and they have a piano and a hair salon. They have something every day. Her room was very nice and clean. They've got grab bars in the bathroom, new carpet and new flooring. They've got cable TV and free wi-fi. They are reasonable compared to some of the places around here. I would live there if I needed assisted living.

Courtyard at Jamestown impressed me the most of all of the places I visited. I liked it. I met some people there, and they loved it. The person who gave me the tour was exceptional. She called me several times to see how I was doing. They were more attentive and interested in me. They had a beauty parlor and went to the temple every week which I appreciated.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Provo
Medicaid in Utah
The Medicaid program in Utah provides health care services to families and individuals who are unable to afford coverage on their own. The program provides medical services for almost half a million elderly and disabled people. Some of the services covered by Utah Medicaid include primary care, prescription medications, medical devices, emergency transportation, hospital and mental health services. Although the cost of assisted living isn’t covered under the state plan, there are Medicaid options in place to help seniors access this type of long-term care.
Seniors in Utah seeking Medicaid care under the state plan must meet the following requirements:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Live in Utah full time
- A maximum monthly income of $1,041 ($1,372 for married couples)
- No more than $2,000 in countable assets ($3,000 for married couples)
Medicaid considers all income sources when determining seniors’ eligibility for coverage; however, some assets are exempt. These include the applicant’s home and its furnishings, one vehicle, burial plots and personal belongings.
Provo seniors can apply for Medicaid online, or call the Utah Department of Health at (866) 435-7414 for more information about the application process.
New Choices Waiver Program
The New Choices waiver program helps seniors who want to transition from a nursing home or hospital to an assisted living facility or their own home. It provides financial assistance to help with the cost of transitional services, such as transportation and counseling. It also pays for assisted living or home care services.
To qualify for the New Choices waiver, applicants need to be at least 65 years old and residing in a nursing home or hospital when they submit their application. Applicants can’t earn more than $2,313 per month and must meet the Medicaid program’s asset requirements.
To apply for this waiver, seniors can call the Utah Medicaid help desk at (800) 662-9651.
Aging Waiver
Utah’s Aging waiver provides services to seniors to delay the need for care in a nursing home. It pays for services provided in a senior’s own home or assisted living facility. Covered benefits include skilled nurse visits, assisted living care and nonemergency transportation.
To qualify, applicants must be a minimum of 65 years of age and fully eligible for Utah Medicaid. They also must undergo a comprehensive assessment to confirm they require a nursing home level of care but are able to live safely outside a skilled nursing facility.
To apply, seniors can contact the Division of Aging and Adult Services at (801) 538-3910.
Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living
Optional State Supplement
Utah’s Optional State Supplement is paid in cash to Provo residents who receive federal Supplemental Security Income benefits. These two benefits are combined and issued once per month. The OSS exists to help those with limited resources pay for care and expenses not covered by Medicaid.
To qualify for this benefit, applicants need to be at least 65 years of age or disabled or blind, have $771 or less in monthly income and a maximum of $2,000 in countable assets.
To apply OSS or SSI benefits, seniors can contact the Social Security Administration at (800) 772-1213.
Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-term care insurance helps seniors pay for care services when they’re needed. Most LTC insurance providers require senior citizens to purchase a policy while they’re in relatively good health and before the need for assisted living or nursing home care exists. Prices and terms of LTC policies vary depending on the provider, deductible, amount of insurance purchased and health and age of the applicant.
Seniors who require assistance understanding their long-term care insurance options can call Elderlife Financial Services at (888) 228-4500.
