United Pioneer Home

In 1947, how to better care for the aged was on the minds of the Luck Lutheran Church congregation. A project to build an "old folks" home was subsequently launched and a great deal of planning and sacrifice ensued before the idea became a reality. The original idea of a Lutheran Home was expanded, and the project became non-sectarian with the result being the United Pioneer Home, Inc. For all practical purposes the United Pioneer Home was the first "assisted living" facility in northwest Wisconsin. The United Pioneer Home opened in June of 1953, built using donated labor and free-will donations of local church congregations, and was open to any aged person of the area. It was the original "assisted living" facility in Polk County. In September 2011, United Pioneer Home moved into its new facility. After 59 years, the ideal of providing care to the elderly continues. The United Pioneer Home Inc., now has 50 skilled nursing home beds, a 16-bed CBRF - Lawson Manor, and 20 HUD, rent-assisted apartments for the elderly and elderly handicapped on a campus located in a residential neighborhood in the Village of Luck.
