I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I can not say enough about how appreciative I am of the care and compassion Quail Manor staff and the owner Colleen provided my mom for the past 5 years. I have been an ER nurse for 20+ years and have seen the end results of poor care provided to some care home residents. I never had a complaint with the staff at Quail Manor. My mom was well cared for, never had any breakdown of her skin the entire 5 years, never had covid and the staff truly loved and cared about her. If the staff or Colleen felt something was just “off” about my mom or maybe she did not eat well that day, I would receive a call or text that day. The staff stay awake all night checking on the residents, which is huge. Not all resident care homes have that service, instead they have staff sleeping in the care home. My family found comfort and peace knowing she was well cared for.

I like LifeStream at Thunderbird. I especially like the part where you don't have to share a bathroom with another resident, but you have to pay $350 more. The place was homey and it even had the little windows that were set so you could put little pretty things on the window. It's adorable. I thought that the staff was very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The residents were doing some crafts, and they were getting ready to practice some singing. They also have a music class with people teaching them different instruments.

At Glencroft Senior Living, you couldn't go from one point to another point without going outside and all your rooms exited to the outside like a motel. Plus the place was really old and not as well maintained as it could have been. The staff who gave me the tour was fine. We couldn't deal with the room where she has to walk outside, it wasn't good for an 80-year old woman. We had a salesperson walk us around who was very nice.

We have chosen Glencroft Senior Living for my mother. We are thrilled with it. My mother really likes it. There are lots of phenomenal activities. The food is fantastic. We have seen their small store, post office, and beauty shop. She had her hair cut there already and she's gotten a pedicure done. They have two full restaurants and a bistro. They also have a swimming pool, indoor pool, and auditorium. They have amazing amenities.

I visited this facility

The part of Brookdale North Glendale that we saw was beautiful and very well-maintained. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. The security appears to be excellent. A buzzer goes off every time somebody opens a door anywhere, so there were buzzers going off a lot. The staff was very vigilant because every time a buzzer goes off, somebody immediately attended to it. The place itself was very clean, beautifully-appointed, and lovely.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We have been in Glencroft for a while now. We're really happy, and among the places we've looked at, we like this one. We like the Christian atmosphere, it's perfect for us, and together with all the Catholics, we pray the rosary and we have mass. We also enjoy the work and volunteering. The staff is excellent, really very good, and courteous. Whenever we need something, like if something goes wrong, we just call and in like ten minutes they get here. I would recommend it to anybody. They have a lot of things for the residents, like every two weeks they have a bulletin with things going on like music and entertainment, games, and so on. So if you want to do something, there's plenty to do. We're not on any meal plan. We cook our own meals, but I heard from other residents that the food is good. The value is very good.

Glencroft is a very nice place, and we had no problems with it. We like what they offer, and it seems to be the best you can get around here. The staff is excellent and wonderful. They offer quite a bit of activities, like swimming and cards, and the normal routine games for old folks. The food is tolerable. There are good days and bad days.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at Glencroft. It has been good so far. It is a senior living and yet they have a section that if you need more help, they can get it for you. The location is ideal, too. It is right nearby. It has very nice and very well kept grounds. The people are very nice. It is a Christian place and very peaceful. Glencroft is one of the least expensive ones, so I'm sure you'll get a very good deal on it. My mom is in the dementia unit. It is a self-contained facility with its own dining area. My mom's room is nice. They have different levels of dementia care so if they get worse, they can move them. They don't have to go to a different place, which is good. They also have classes for families to help them with dementia care.

My mother was in Glencroft independent before she took a fall, and then she was transferred to the memory care, and mixed with the memory care patients. They were good to her until they transferred her, then they ignored her. I will never put a fit member of my family in a place like that. They have jigsaw puzzles and cards, but mother did not participate, and they have a swimming pool.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Glendale

Medicaid in Arizona

Arizona’s Medicaid program is called the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. It’s run as a section 1115 demonstration waiver and provides health care insurance for seniors 65 and older who don’t need nursing facility care. It also coordinates with other programs to provide long-term care services in facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living centers.

To be eligible for AHCCCS, seniors must:

  • Be an Arizona resident
  • Have a social security number or have applied for one
  • Be a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant
  • Not exceed the income limit, which is $16,040 a year for an individual and $21,599 for a couple

There is a division of the AHCCCS called the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS), which is designed to assist seniors in arranging and paying for long-term care services when needed. It’s an entitlement, so there are no enrollment caps, and everyone who qualifies receives service. The program provides long-term care in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day cares and senior’s homes.

To be eligible for the ALTCS program, participants must:

  • Be at least 65 years old
  • Have a qualifying disability or need daily assistance equivalent to nursing facility care
  • Have no more than $3,000 in assets for couples and $2,000 for individuals (a personal vehicle and a primary home if it is valued under $572,000 are exempt from this requirement)

There are also monthly income caps, but they vary depending on the applicant’s marital status, whether they live independently or with caregivers, and if their spouse has applied for or is receiving Medicaid. Once accepted into the ALTCS, participants are assigned a caseworker to help them devise a care plan that is suitable for their unique situation.

Seniors can apply for ACCCHS online or call (866) 495-6738.

Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Veterans Aid and Attendance Program

Veterans Affairs offers a supplemental cash program called the Veterans Aid and Attendance Program. It’s available to veterans over 65 who need assistance with activities that include medication management, bathing, dressing, grocery shopping and meal prep. To apply, seniors must submit documentation of wartime service. They must have served at least 90 days of active duty during wartime and been honorably discharged. If they’re under 65, they must be totally disabled. For those over 65, there is no disability requirement. Single surviving spouses of such veterans are also eligible.

Financial requirements for the program are complicated, so applicants should contact their local VA benefits office for help in applying. Call (800) 827-1000 for more information about this program.

Assisted Living Bridge Loans

Elderlife Financial is an organization that offers loans to seniors who have an immediate need for assisted living funding. This can be helpful for seniors who are waiting for a home to sell or to be approved for benefits. Elderlife Financial provides up to 12 months of payments to individuals and families. The funds can be taken as a lump sum or as a line of credit, and if taken as a line of credit, borrowers will only pay interest on what is used.

Multiple borrowers may sign for a loan, placing less weight on individual credit scores. The company requires information on the source of anticipated funding, and because the family of a senior usually applies, their health and age are not a factor in approval. The approval time is fast, sometimes within 24 hours. For more information, contact Elderlife Financial Services at (888) 228-4500.
