The staff at Kirkwood Orange went out of their way, everybody seemed to love their job, and everybody was happy. The craft people were enthusiastic and happy about their job. They're very warm and very inviting to outside family. It's really nice. When you walk in, you feel like you're being welcomed home. They have the main dining room, and you can have a private room for your family as well. They had an ice cream parlor and a kitchen that they can always go in, open the refrigerator and make something. They've got a living room and a great dining room, and the menu looked good. The rooms were nice. Overall, I liked it.

I toured the assisted living at Kirkwood Orange although they have a small memory care unit as well. I loved it, and it's where I would have wanted my dad to go. It's a small community, a little more intimate and homelike but so professionally maintained. It reminds me of a large custom home or a big bed and breakfast. The entry was a little bit more welcoming than the other place I went to. There's a fireplace, just like when you walk into someone's home. I felt welcomed just by the place, before I even spoke to someone, just based on the ambiance. One of the standout facilities is their 24-hour ice cream parlor just off the lobby, which would be so welcoming if you're bringing children to visit someone. Their garden is so beautiful and very accessible, they had a formal dining room that was also accessible like for events. I saw several rooms, and it would depend on your price point. I would probably have opted for the 1-bedroom. There seemed to be a lot of areas that you could visit with family members without being in just a large room. It's a very clean place, they explained to me how they do laundry and I really liked that. They answered so many questions and made themselves available to me since it was a very difficult time specially if you have never done it before or you didn't have a lot of support. I did not try the food, but I had to be there for meal times. A friend took me into his mother's room with it being fleshed out with drawers and personal effects. It seemed like a large family home where you can have a barbecue, a family meal or gather in the ice cream parlor.

My father has moved into Kirkwood Orange. He seems to be happy there. They're pretty wonderful. The staff members are very attentive. My father's room is large, clean, bright and open. They have all sorts of activities. They have daily music, they have exercise classes throughout the week, and they take them out on outings. They have a large game room, an ice cream parlor, and a large beautiful garden. They have assisted living but they also have memory care.

We were impressed with Kirkwood. It has a very comfortable feeling, a very homey feeling, and that was our preferred location. We didn't see a lot of one-on-one contacts, but what we saw, we were impressed with. It looked like they provided a lot of activities for the residents to take part in. They had a lot of comfortable sitting areas, activity areas, game areas, and TV rooms.
