Atria Collwood is a facility where everything is provided for you, that includes the food, transportation, and help with medical appointments. They had one-room units, and a very nice, and very caring staff. I think they're a group of people that really like what they do, and they seemed to really like each other. The facility is not brand new, but still very well-maintained. They have an exercise room, a library, a community dining area, and common areas with a rose garden. It's a pretty extensive place. They do exercise every day and provide care for your daily needs in terms of meals. Right now, because of COVID, they bring the meals to the people rather than using the community space, but there were some people who were in the community area who were spaced six feet apart. They observed all of those rules. I think it's a positive environment for anyone that's in the position of having to have assisted living, even if I am not at that point yet.

I visited here. I liked it. The only thing about this one is the room was much smaller, but the staff there is very nice. I knew it was kind of a smaller facility, but they have independent living, assisted living, and memory care, and I really like the staff there. I saw a one-bedroom and a studio, and they were just smaller-sized overall. They had an exercise area, a little sunroom, but they didn't have as many outdoor areas as the other places just because of the location they're in, but the facility is very nice overall. The menu looked good, but I didn't try the food there. They're smaller so they had staggered times for people to eat so there could still be distance enough. They just have a library, their sunroom is very nice where people play cards and things like that. I noticed that the staff knew all the residents. They just talked to them and interacted with them and were just very kind.

The room here was so little. It's just one bedroom with a bathroom, but I liked it. The tour was fine. The person was very kind and took me to the dining room, the patio, the TV room, and the exercise area. I saw their activities listed on the wall. The layout of the facility was good.

Above and beyond all expectations! This staff cares so much and are so friendly. You can tell how they all like their jobs as well as support each other. Their #1 priority is the health and mental well being of all the residents. The personal care and attention my mom got as well what I got was far greater than expected. The staff provided excellent communication. All the fun activities were so great. My mom loved the food and the companionship. When my mom was at home she was alone, in bed all the time, and depressed. When she came here, new life was breathed into here. It was like she was becoming her old self again. She was happy, active, eating well, clean, and having fun. When my mom passed, the staff was just as sad as we were to lose her. They developed a personal loving relationship with her. I’m so comforted to know that she died here with dignity and love surrounding her. I highly recommend Pacifica Memory Care in Jarupa.

Remington Club was a prestigious place in Rancho Bernardo, which is a retirement community in San Diego. It had the normal services, very good food, and looked like a nice place. It was a good visit experience. They had lots of things to do. The Remington Club has been around for at least five years and has a more established reputation. It's pretty well known around the area.

Mother is at Villa Rancho Bernardo Care Center for rehab. Its a pretty decent place, its clean, the services are relatively good, and it fits our needs well. The room is nice size, it could be a little larger, and it has a bathroom, sink, and shower. They have a morning session, afternoon, and evening sessions of activities where the residents can participate, and they have all kinds of games. They have a small, but adequate library, and several TVs all over the place. Most of the staff are caring. They try their best.

We visited and really liked it and the atmosphere. It's nice with a bit old style, but older people like that. We had a very good lunch, and the chef even came out and talked to us. They can accommodate restrictions in diet. That's the place we're going to go with.

My ex-husband is at the Patrician (Atria La Jolla). It's independent living and smaller, so he doesn't have to walk far to any room. It has a restaurant, where you can order what you want. The food was always great, but they changed what they bought and it got shaky, but they're back to the superior rating. They have something going on every day, like movies in the theater, and they have a bus to take people shopping or to the theaters. He had problems with the building, but they were dealt with.

St Paul's Manor was a nice place. It was well kept, but it was older. Once a week they take the residents to a shopping center. They have painting classes, a Bridge group, an exercise room, and movies every so often. You can get one, two, or three meals. They have housekeeping once a week, and you can do your own laundry or you can have it done for you for a fee. They have a beauty salon. They take you to doctors' appointments on Wednesdays and Fridays. For the money, it's quite good. It's really reasonable, and the staff members were very nice.
According to Genworth’s 2018 Cost of Care Study, assisted living prices in San Diego are slightly higher than the national average of $4,000 and equal to the state average of $4,500. Compared to other metropolitan areas in Southern California, local assisted living costs are similar to Los Angeles and Oxnard. Although rates are substantially higher than Bakersfield, Riverside and El Centro, where the average cost of assisted living is around $3,433, the San Diego area is 20 percent more affordable than San Jose where residents pay $5,500 per month on average.

In general, the cost of senior care is based on the level of assistance that each individual requires. Adult day programs and home health aides provide full-time care during normal business hours. While adult day care is one of the most affordable options, rates for homemaker services and home health aides in the San Diego area are close to $4,800 per month. This exceeds the cost of assisted living by some $250 per month, and it doesn’t factor in maintenance and other costs incurred by seniors who live at home. For adults who require a higher level of care, assisted living facilities and nursing homes are typically the most suitable options. Both facilities provide 24-hour care. However, assisted living services are about half as expensive. Cost of Homemaker/Home Health Aide Comparison Chart

California’s Medicaid program provides health insurance, vision, dental and long-term care benefits to seniors, disabled adults and low-income residents of San Diego. It covers most health-related services directly or indirectly through waivers. For example, Medi-Cal provides financial assistance to almost two-thirds of nursing home residents in San Diego. The system also covers the cost of community-based services that allow members to remain in their own homes. The Assisted Living Waiver is a third option. It serves as an alternative to nursing care and in-home care for seniors who are eligible for Medicaid alone or in addition to Medicare. To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements.
Assisted Living Waivers
California’s Assisted Living Waiver pays for the cost of personal care in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly. Medicaid normally covers the cost of skilled nursing facilities as well as services in the community. Just as Medicaid doesn’t pay for rent or housing in the community, it does not cover the cost of room and board, but it does pay for the following services that are billed separately.
Area Agencies on Aging provide a single point of contact for older adults and disabled persons who are eligible for federal, state or county benefits. These regional organizations engage in advocacy, manage community outreach campaigns, make case management referrals and provide services directly to the public.
