My mother is in Brookdale West Boynton Beach. It's been a very positive experience. They're very good and very helpful. I had no idea how difficult it was getting my mother into assisted care, and Brookdale made it as easy as possible. They worked with me, answered all my questions, and did anything I asked. I was there when they were giving my mother the menu options, and I couldn't believe it -- it was like a restaurant. There were so many options. Her room is nice and clean, but it's assisted living and not a five-star hotel. They have a library and activity rooms. In order to get my mother into the facility, a nurse had to come out and do a thorough evaluation of her to see if she was a candidate for assisted living. They sent someone out the next day, even without a commitment from us to do the nursing evaluation, and that made it much easier to get her in there. She's entitled to get a veterans pension to help her pay her fees there, and I had to give them multiple forms. They filled them all out and gave them back to me the next day, and it was very helpful. I feel very comfortable with my mother being there. I'm very comfortable that she's getting the correct amount of attention and good care over there. The food looked good when I saw it. For lunch, they'd have three or four options. The resident gets a chance to choose which one she wants, and I was very impressed with that. The sales representative was fabulous.

My sister went to Discovery Village of Boynton Beach. She's very happy there and she's very active. They have a morning exercise program on the television, there's movies most evenings and some afternoons, and she plays bridge with some of the women there. She loves to walk and she's found a few people who like to walk as well. She's almost a vegetarian and she loves the food because they have, according to her, wonderful vegetables and fish. She's met a few nice people. She was reluctant to move there because she had come from a country club situation, but she has settled in and likes it very much. They're doing a huge renovation there. She moved into a small apartment, but it has a brand new kitchen, a microwave, a lovely new refrigerator and oven, and marble countertops. The bathroom has a brand new shower, brand new fixtures, and the floors are all brand new. They all have a little terrace outside and they're all brand new. It's quite nice, and it's moderately priced compared to some of the retirement homes. She's happy and she's a tough customer. If she's happy, we're happy. I only met the woman in charge of new people coming in and she was delightful, very helpful, she had us over for lunch there, and she explained everything. It was quite a very nice situation and now a neighbor's mother is going to be going there also. I had lunch a couple of times and the food was very nice. They're going through a huge renovation right now. The dining room is under construction. Everything's gonna be brand new and beautiful there once they're done.

My friend seemed to like Grand Villa of Boynton Beach. It looked great. The staff who accommodated me was the most caring person I talked to. The dining area looked very appealing. All of the activities looked good, too. They were doing karaoke while I was there, and it was very nice. The place was pretty compact, but it was quite good for the layout.

Grand Villa of Boynton Beach had shared apartments and I didn't want to share with somebody. I wanted my own place, but they said it would be a thousand dollars more, so I said, "Forget about it." The room had two full-sized beds with a wall in between, and you share the bathroom and a very small kitchen. I only met one lady and I told her I didnt like the place and she wasn't interested in talking to me anymore. They have a pool.

We chose Discovery Village of Boynton Beach. The place was lovely and the food was outstanding. They offered wonderful amenities. It was heads and tails above the other places. There was a gym, a swimming pool, and they had nurses on-call if you needed one. Even though we're going into independent living, we would have access to many amenities similar to assisted living. They had a nice library and I saw a large 2-bedroom apartment. They had transportation service and concierge service. The price was about the same as the other places, but they offered much more. If needed, my husband could transfer into assisted living without having to move. The appliances in the apartments are stainless steel. The kitchen is being redone with beautiful granite countertops and things that you find in a much more expensive place. I had lunch there, and it was delicious. It was served by a waiter in uniform, and the eating facility looked like a fancy restaurant with tablecloths. They serve three meals a day, but you got to pick two of them. The staff I met was very nice.

We chose Windward Palms for our sister because it's an active community, it has a dining room in the same building as the rooms, and the room is completely handicap accessible. The staff is very helpful. There's a pool, an outside porch for each apartment, and they have activities. She's pretty happy with the food. I have no complaints.

I absolutely love Sonata. I went yesterday to give them a deposit to hold an assisted living room; however, I was told that my dad had deteriorated. They weren't able to take him. Let me tell you though that it was a really wonderful community. We were trying to get my dad in by the end of this week. It was on a smaller scale. They have separate buildings for the memory care and for the assisted living. It was very clean, and everything was pristine. I spoke with a couple of the residents, and they were very happy. The two women that I dealt with were incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful.

The average monthly price of a semiprivate room with nursing home care in Boynton Beach is $7,756, which is more than double the cost of assisted living ($3,620). Nursing facility care is costly because it includes around-the-clock skilled nursing for seniors who often have complex medical needs, while assisted living is geared towards those who are more independent. Homemaker services costs slightly less than assisted living, while a home health aide costs slightly more. When calculating the total monthly cost of each senior care service, it’s important to add the ongoing costs involved with maintaining a home, such as rent, repairs and insurance.

Seniors enrolled in PACE receive all of their care services through PACE-affiliated providers. Participation is voluntary, and seniors are free to leave the program at any time.
