I visited Eustis senior Care. The tour was OK, but I just didnt like it. It was crowded, it was old, it was not clean, I just didnt feel like they were very well attended, and I didnt like the way it smelled. The second lady told me they didnt handle medications. The rooms were small, the place looked old and run-down. They have shared rooms.

Lake Ridge Village is a nice place. The people who work there are nice and the food is good; I just all have positive ratings. There's a dining room, laundry facilities, and a common area for eating, and they use it sometimes for entertainment. I visited several senior communities and this one is what I like best.

Pendry Estate deserves a five star review. My mother has lived at Pendry for over two years. During that time she has received great care with kindness and compassion. We visit my mother regularly, giving us ample opportunity to observe the great care given to all of the residents. If you visit Pendry before lunch, you will probably find the owner, Mel Davidson, busy cooking a delicious meal, chopping vegetables while simmering magic on the stove. The large kitchen is in full view of the dining area, with nothing to hide. Pendry is a beautiful Spanish style home located on 11 acres of country setting. It is minutes from the new Publix Grocery in Sorrento, and just around the corner from Crystal Springs Elementary School and Santa's Tree Farm. The estate has eight private bedrooms, each with a large private bath, complete with a roll-in shower. Most of the rooms have a view of the heated pool, just beyond a large wrap-around porch. Mel encourages families and friends of the residents to take full advantage of the amenities Pendry has to offer, including the pool and brick barbeque on the screened porch. Pendry Estate is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a well run, immaculately kept home for your loved one.

Lake Ridge was very nice. It's quiet, and that's what we wanted. I liked how people gathered at lunch and dinner to meet their friends. The apartments were pretty and just the right size. The menu was nice, and if you do not like the menu, you can also order regular food. They have bean bag baseball and coloring for adults. I liked it. We will move in by August.

Lake Ridge Village was the only place that we visited because it fit my friend’s financial plan. We were very pleased with it. The guy in charge was very nice. He took a lot of time with us, explained everything, and took us on a tour. He was very informative, and the place was very clean and very nice. The room we saw was a one-bedroom and very well laid out and had all the necessary things.

When you enter the building of Lake Ridge Village, it’s a low ceiling, the paint was dull, the lighting was very low, and the furniture was outdated. The residents were very quiet and subdued. It was more like a nursing home. Their price is excellent at $2,100 a month, which includes everything. The people were friendly; the attendants and the lady who showed us around were very nice and very professional. It’s just a very outdated building. The apartment was nice and clean, and they were willing to do a lot of upgrades for me, like allow me to put my washer and dryer in there and make special hook ups for me. However, they had a patio attached to it that I couldn’t get to in a wheelchair because it steps down. The apartment was beautiful and new, but the hallways and the floors were a little creaky like in an older home. That’s why I would suggest that they repaint it with a brighter color. Their dining area was very open and spacious. Everything was included in the price, which will be excellent: the food, the utilities, and everything. And it was right across the street from a shopping mall, so it was in a good location. It had an aura of sadness, and I want it to be bright when I come home.

The only one we went to was Lake Ridge Village. Everybody there was lovely. We were treated very nicely. The food was okay. It was tasty enough but being the daughter and sister of a butcher, I found the meat poor quality. Overall experience, I found the place kind of depressing. I don’t know if it’s the ambience, the color or there’s not enough light. It just turned me off. The director was trying very hard to close the sale too. But everybody was very nice there. I just thought it was very depressing.

I only saw a one-bedroom at Lake Ridge Village; they didn’t have any studio available. Some studios don’t have balconies, but some do. The lady who took me around was very business-like. She didn’t have a very charming personality. It was very cold. The community was OK, but it wasn’t for me. It’s an OK place, but I think it’s overpriced. The item that I really wanted for the lunch was not available, so I had to take whatever else was on the menu. Food was OK, but it wasn’t the greatest. In other words, they don’t provide an extensive amount of options as far as the meals are concerned.

The tour at Lake Ridge Village was very nice, but it was not at all what I was looking for since it was basically a motel for senior citizens. The room wasn't too small. You walk out into a hallway and either go into the dining area or go the other way into the parking lot. The sunroom was a very small area. If I am less ambulatory than I am, then it might work out for me. I need a place with more activity. There were people playing checkers and cards, and crocheting.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Eustis
Medicaid in Florida
Medicaid is a national government-funded health plan that provides eligible low-income people with essential health benefits, such as primary care, hospital services and long-term care. In some states Medicaid also includes optional, state-specific benefits that cover basic dental and vision care services, prescription medications, physical and occupational therapy, hospice care and community-based nursing home diversion programs.
Eligibility for Medicaid coverage in Florida is determined by either the Social Security Administration or the Department of Children and Families. Seniors who meet the income and asset criteria benefits for Supplemental Security Income benefits automatically qualify for basic Medicaid coverage.
Qualifying for Medicaid
Seniors aged 65 and older who need long-term care services may qualify if they earn $2,313 or less per month and they own under $2,000 worth of countable assets, including all cash, stocks, bonds and most types of real estate.
Senior couples requiring long-term Medicaid services may qualify if they earn $4,262 or less per month and own under $3,000 in joint countable assets. If only one spouse needs coverage, the income of the healthy spouse is disregarded. The non-applicant spouse (community spouse) can receive income transferred from the applicant to bring the total monthly income of the community spouse up to a maximum of $3,161 per month to prevent spousal impoverishment.
Some specific assets are exempt under Medicaid rules. These assets include one vehicle, an irrevocable burial contract, household furnishings and personal items and a home owned and occupied by the Medicaid applicant and/or their spouse valued at no more than $585,000.
The community spouse may also keep half of the couple’s joint assets (in addition to Medicaid-exempt assets) worth a maximum of $126,420 under the community spouse resource allowance rule.
Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program
The Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long Term Care program is managed care designed to reduce institutionalization rates among Medicaid-enrolled seniors who meet the clinical criteria for nursing home placement.
This program funds community-based services to help seniors in an assisted living facility. These amenities are assigned based on the needs identified by the Comprehensive Assessment and Review for Long-Term Care Services, a federally mandated preadmission screening program for all Medicaid participants who request enrollment in a long-term care plan.
Based on the needs identified by CARES, seniors who are deemed eligible to participate in the SMMC LTC may be provided with one or more of the following benefits:
- Durable medical equipment and disposable medical supplies
- Intermittent skilled nursing care
- Personal care to help with activities of daily living
- Speech, physical, occupational and/or respiratory therapy
- Access to a personal emergency medical alert device
- Hospice care
- Homemaker services and home-delivered meals
- Adult day care
- Assisted living facility services
For more information about Florida’s Medicaid program and the SMMC LTC, contact the Lake County Elder Helpline at (800) 262-2243 or Elder Options, the Area Agency on Aging for Lake County, at (352) 378-6649.

Optional State Supplementation
The Florida Optional State Supplementation program provides Supplemental Security Income top-up funding to eligible seniors who are aged 65 or older, qualify for SSI benefits and need to live in an assisted living facility because they cannot safely live on their own.
Single applicants may receive $78.40 per month in OSS funding, and couples may receive up to $156.80. The OSS benefit is designed to help seniors pay for the room-and-board portion of their care costs.
