I loved The Preserve at Palm-Aire. I went there yesterday and I really liked it a lot. It was clean and it has lots of amenities. Ernesto, the guy that showed me around, was fabulous. It was Ernesto that made me decide to do the tour. He understood what my reasons were. We did a virtual tour at first. It's amazing how much you don't see in a virtual tour. It's not the same at all. Everything was really good there.

The Preserve at Palm Aire was very nice. Everything seemed to be a la carte. You have to pay for your pills. It looked like Club Med to me, which was nice. It's more like a resort. It's beautiful, the rooms are beautiful, and they have a nice big parking lot in the front. Everybody was nice. They have a swimming pool. The rooms were very nice, but they were small.

My dad moved into The Preserve at Palm Aire. It's very nice and I'm very pleased with the layout. The reception person at the front desk is very pleasant, helpful, and resourceful. They really presented a good feel for me and made me comfortable with what they had to offer, especially the type of apartment, the needs that my dad has, and the possibility of transitioning to the other services that are there. The food was good and actually had flavor. I was impressed. They cater as much as possible to the population that lives there. My dad goes to the gym, which is good. I'm very pleased with the new resident orientation, which gives them the chance to learn about the place and get around on their own. The dining seating is a little tricky if you're a new person and you're trying to get to know others. The price is reasonable.

The people at The Preserve at Palm Aire were personable, even just from talking to them. They're one of the friendliest out of the places that I talked to, they answered more than just one-word answers, elaborated, and asked me questions. When we got there, it was the only place that asked questions about my father and his background. The rooms are very nice and spacious and they have great closet space. They have a daily list of calendars that you can go down and get for the month of all the activities and different things going on within the place. The food is good and they're currently working on it. They have a new chef that just started.

Such a great place. My mom spent almost 2 months in rehab. ALL members of staff contributed immensely to her care and recovery; the nurses, the aides, kitchen staff, the social worker and let me not forget to mention the therapists. Their level of commitment to the patients' care and recovery is priceless. The physical environment is clean and beautifully decorated. The the atmosphere is warm and welcoming

The Preserve at Palm Aire is beautiful, very clean, and in a good area. The staff is very friendly and super nice. You walk in the front door and it looks like you're walking into a mansion with a winding staircase. They have their own shuttle bus and they take you wherever you want to go. I'm really happy with the place. The menu is out of this world and the dining room is beautiful, with linen napkins, nice linen tablecloths, and beautiful silverware. It's like walking into a fancy restaurant.

The Preserve at Palm Aire seems very nice and the staff is really pleasant. Some staff-members are more friendly than others, but so far things are good. Up until tonight the food was good because I didn't enjoy tonight's meal, although that's just a matter of taste. I have a lovely apartment, and so far so good because I'm satisfied. They're also pet-friendly.

The Preserve at Palm Aire had somebody available for me at the appointment time. They all of the literature and were able to answer all of my questions. I toured the facility and was able to speak with some of the residents. I was able to see the residents interacting; they weren't just sitting there. I was looking at private rooms that were immaculate and a little bit on the small side but acceptable.

The Preserve at Palm Aire is very nice. The staff members are all OK. The dining room service is very slow, but they said they're working on it. The food is excellent; that's why we chose this place. We're in the independent living, so the services are minimal. Our room is great and has two bedrooms and a balcony. It's not the exact apartment that I wanted, but it is close enough. It has a refrigerator and a stove. For activities, they offer everything.

Care Cost Comparison
The cost of senior care varies with the type of care, location and number of service hours provided per week. In Pompano Beach, nursing home care is the most expensive option because it provides seniors with 24-hour skilled nursing care in a state-licensed facility. The price of assisted living is on par with 44 hours per week of homemaker or home health aide services. Unlike residential care options for seniors that include room and board, in-home care costs are in addition to ongoing expenses, such as food, utility payments and home maintenance.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Pompano Beach
Medicaid in Florida
Medicaid provides low-income seniors with essential medical care services, including emergency, inpatient and outpatient hospital care, a primary physician and long-term care, using funds provided by the state and federal government.
To ensure Medicaid coverage is offered to all people who would otherwise be left without any health care, Florida has income and asset limits for those seeking Medicaid enrollment. Seniors who already receive Supplemental Security Income are automatically enrolled in Medicaid, and they only need to complete further screening if requesting Medicaid-funded long-term care services.
Florida’s Medicaid income limit for seniors 65 and older is 300% of the federal SSI benefit rate or $2,313 a month for singles and $4,626 for couples.
Note: These amounts are subject to change annually, and income from all sources, including alimony, pensions, wages and investments, are counted.
As an income cap state, Florida seniors with income that exceeds Medicaid limits don’t have the option to spend-down excess income in order to reach Medicaid eligibility levels. Seniors can establish a Qualified Income Trust, also called a Miller Trust, to become eligible for Medicaid by placing excess income into a trust which names the State as the beneficiary.
Seniors must also meet asset limits, currently set at $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple applying together. Some assets are considered exempt, including one vehicle, household furnishings, clothing and a home, valued at $585,000 or less, in which the applicant lives.
Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program
Florida offers a Medicaid waiver for seniors who meet the criteria for nursing home placement but prefer to reside in an assisted living facility.
The Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program provides medically necessary services to seniors in order for them to live safely in an assisted living community.
To qualify for the SMMC LTC, seniors must complete an assessment through the Comprehensive Assessment and Review for Long-Term Care Services program, which screens all Medicaid enrollees seeking long-term care. A designated CARES physician or registered nurse reviews each assessment and if appropriate refers the senior to the SMMC LTC program.
If accepted, seniors may be eligible to receive some or all of the following Medicaid-funded services:
- Adult day health care
- Attendant or personal care
- Home delivered meals
- Help with laundry and housework
- Medical supplies and durable medical equipment
- A personal emergency response system
- Assistance with transportation to medical appointments
- Intermittent and skilled nursing
- Medication administration
- Rehabilitative therapy, such as speech, physical and occupational therapy

Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living
Optional State Supplementation
Like many other states, Florida provides eligible Supplemental Security Income recipients with SSI top-up funding through the Optional State Supplementation program.
Seniors who collect SSI and are unable to live independently due to age-related deterioration may be eligible for up to $78.40 per month ($156.80 per couple) to help pay for the room-and-board portion of assisted living costs.
