A Country Place was the perfect place for our dad. It Is a friendly, home-like atmosphere on a beautiful 5-acre property, with fruit groves and barnyard animals. My dad was very fond of the animals, especially the baby peacocks and liked watching them grow. Rob and Nancy are the owner operators. Rob pays attention to every detail and is incredibly helpful to both the residents and the family. The staff is amazing, food great and fun events are available. A Country Place has our highest recommendation – it is a great, friendly, safe place who will watch over your loved one and keep you informed. Thank you.

I visit my aunt regularly at Habana Health Care Center. I don't know if I like it too much. I think I'm going to be calling them soon because I want to know if she's had the Corona shot. I also want to know if she's still in a ward with 4 other women, I don't think she should be. She used to be in a semi-private with just one more person. I think they transferred her because they said it's better for her depression but I have not talked to them about it. We just visit her from the outside but once every other week, I call to see how her health is and to check everything. I don't like her room. The last time I went in, it didn't have a phone or a way to call her directly. Most places have phones patients can pick up and talk to their family. Here, you have to call a nurse and the nurse has to take the phone in the room for them. I got to talk to the social worker about that because one of the CNAs told me to talk to the social worker about it but when you call her, she's never available or called me back. She's been getting treatments for arthritis and I see it in her medical report that they seem to be doing everything they can for her. I would not rate the facility very high, it needs some improvement. They've improved a lot these past 2 years that I've been dealing with them but before, they were very poor. The staff members that talk to me are very nice. The CNAs, I don't know if they have real RNs there or not, they've always been very nice. The bad thing about that place is they only have 2 elevators so if they ever have a fire in that place, I don't know how to get those people that can't walk out of there. Half of the time the elevators don't even work properly and they're small. Those things could be improved, I'm sure. Other than that, the food and the care seem to be adequate.

The people that I met during my visit at The Colonnade at Carrollwood were great. The staff was very pleasant, very welcoming, and very caring. The rooms that I saw seemed very comfortable and welcoming. I'm really looking forward to being a patient there.

I was very impressed with Palm Terrace Assisted Living Facility & Adult Day Care Center. It seemed to have a number of amenities, activities for men and women, and there were a number of places where they could go out and sit in the garden. It's really attractive, and if I have my choice, that's where I want my friend to move. The building itself was very well kept.

I like Elmcroft of Carrollwood. I like that it is donut shaped, so if my mother walks and gets lost, she ends up in the same spot. It's small, and she can go out in the courtyard without going out to the street. They have activities throughout the day. The staff helps me out and answers all our questions. She has a little bedroom, a little living room, and a bathroom and you can get a wheelchair in it. The shower is small with a seat. They go shopping, they made projects for Easter, and they're having children come over. They have somebody come in and sing every Friday. They have a library, a beauty parlor, and they do laundry separately, so it's not mixed up and lost. They have a fancy dining room with tablecloths. She is getting physical therapy and occupational therapy, and she has cable TV, which is pretty cheap. It's a great place. The food is sometimes great, sometimes mediocre. They have an ice cream machine, and they can get juice and coffee anytime. The activities director is great. They run specials all the time. There's a fee to get in the place, but they can work with you on that. I was very grateful for the admissions director helping me out.

Tampa Independent Living Communities Cost
The median cost of independent living in Tampa for a single-occupancy apartment is $3,265/month (SeniorHomes.com - 2015). This monthly cost typically includes rent, utilities, dining, housekeeping and transportation.
Attractions
If the area didn’t enjoy a humid subtropical climate, close proximity to Jamaica, the Virgin Islands and other Caribbean vacation spots, as well as magnificent shopping and recreational facilities, it would still be an ideal for Tampa independent living because of its attractive cost of living. Rents, for example, are roughly one-third of what they are in New York City, while the local purchasing power is more than one-third greater. Tampa is a haven for sports fans. Fans may support the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL football), NHL hockey’s Tampa Bay Lightning or the Tampa Blue Rays, a major-league baseball team.
Senior Activities
For a senior center, national accreditation is the highest achievement. Of 11 nationally accredited centers in Florida, Tampa residents are fortunate to have two on their doorstep, one in Tampa itself, the Town ‘n’ Country Senior Center, and one in nearby St Petersburg, the Sunshine Senior Center. Hillsborough County government has an Aging Services Department charged with fostering Tampa independent living and promoting the social, economic, physical and emotional well-being of its elder citizens and their carers. The West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging is charged with helping Tampa’s senior population age at home with dignity.
Medical Facilities
According to Harvard University Medical School, most senior adults have at least one chronic health problem. For seniors fully to enjoy Tampa independent living, access to high-quality local health care facilities is an important consideration. There are more than twenty hospitals and four trauma centers in Tampa and the surrounding areas. Of these, three were rated among America’s best by US News and World Report. Tampa also hosts a number of research institutions. Some of the major hospitals in Tampa are Tampa General Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. The area is host to hundreds of animal medical facilities to care for the residents’ pets.
Transportation
Tampa independent living is facilitated by excellent road, air, rail, sea and public transit facilities. The area is served by two expressways, the Lee Roy Salmon Expressway (SR-618) and Veterans Expressway (SR-589). Both of these are toll roads. Tampa Bay itself is crossed by three bridges into Pinellas County: the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Howard Franklin Bridge and the Gandy Bridge. The city is served by two international airports and two smaller airports. The town also has a rich railway heritage. Historic Tampa Union Station is served by Amtrak with twice-daily services to Miami and New York City. The Tampa Port Authority operates no fewer than three cruise ship terminals. Public transport includes bus, streetcar and paratransit services operated by the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority. The TECO Line Streetcar System combines rustic charm with modern functionality, serving 11 stations with air conditioning and wheelchair access. River taxis and light rail are also available.
Summing Up
For the senior seeking Tampa independent living, there is very little not to like. Weather, shopping, transportation, health and recreational facilities are excellent and the cost of living is low. Sure, the area is prone to hurricanes each season but the local government sees to it that the residents are prepared for it.
