The Ivy at Draper on Bangerter Parkway who is now owned by Greystar for the last year. This is a 55+ senior community that is charging each tenant $40. a month for sewer! I have a friend who’s parents are on a fixed income and this is wrong. You need to check into them and their practices as they also have to pay for the heating and the cooling of the halls of the building halls as well as the electrical for the hall lights and outside lights which is about $25. a month. The tenants should not have to pay to heat and cool the building and for the lights inside the building and outside. We have never seen these charges anywhere that they assess tenants. The tenants have to pay for their own power bill inside their unit which is normal, but it is expensive as their units are all electric. The manager is not able to be reached and does not care about her tenants welfare and the building is not being maintained properly. They raise the rent on tenants from $100 a year to $300 a year. They also have to pay to park out in the open or for a carport. In addition to all of these fees, they are expected to pay Greystar for pest control, a landline phone plus Internet and cable. They are assessed all of these fees every month. The rent there is over $1700.+ a month for a small two bedroom and two bath.

Don't place your loved ones here. My mother was neglected when she resided in the memory care unit, left on the cold floor for hours which led to a significant hospital stay with a decline in her function. She then had 4 other injuries which were unexplained and discovered by family or her Hospice nurse. Family was never notified by facility of her injuries. Most of her clothing disappeared as fast as we provided it. Director of nursing and administrator don't have the decency to return calls until you leave 3-4 messages.

Adequate rooms. Food good activities good . Staff is poor don't give meds on time staff rude . Don't hold up to health codes dealing with bugs instead of spraying whole building just do one room to continue. Hard to get ahold of staff . Instead of getting an increase once a year on Ren they do twice a year and don't tell anyone till month before .

My 93 year old father and I toured 4 assisted living places and Truewood by Merrill Taylorsville was hands down our favorite. Dim set my dad up to play bingo and have lunch with current residents and then showed us a couple of rooms. Residents and staff were SO friendly!!! We loved the back, outside area and met several wonderful residents out walking their dogs. My dad will be moving in soon and he is so excited! He was getting lonely in his apartment and met people easily here. Well staffed. Dim and Gaylen were so helpful in getting us set up to move in and made my dad feel welcome.

I\'ve lived here over a year. Constantly understaffed. Med techs and assistants are good. We have a new nurse for the facility as of a couple months ago. Previous nurse constantly was late with providing us with refills. Constantly late with refills leaving us residents to go without. I\'m not aware if that\'s been resolved. Some of the attendants are not qualified to do your personal laundry. They don\'t seem to mind if they ruin your clothing. The dining room again understaffed, service is slow. Over half the time you could wait 30-45 minutes do you have your order taken and then anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour before you receive your food. Half the time it\'s on the cool side. Heaven forbid if you wish to ask for anything in the meantime such as butter or additional condiments. Anything over my base needs such as recovering from surgeries are out of the question. They\'ll just leave you hanging. Even though ask for additional service before, after the surgery, then it\'s a big No. It\'s the management that provides less than quality service. Though everyone is friendly. It\'s odd.

I visited this facilityReview of Crown Point Christian Village

We visited Crown Point Christian Village and, on our visit, it looked very nice and very comfortable. They showed us the studio and the 1-bedroom. The staff was very informative and very nice. They had kitchens that were just lovely. I saw the common areas and they looked very comfortable and very nice. We were told they had activities going on. They have exercises, crafts, and different things going on and that is what we were interested in.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Lake County

Medicaid in Illinois

Medicaid is the national health insurance program that provides basic health coverage for people who have few assets and a low income. Funding comes from both the state and federal governments, and in Illinois, 18% of the population is covered through Medicaid Medical Assistance Programs administered by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.

To qualify for free Medicaid coverage, seniors may earn no more than the Federal Poverty Level, which is $1,012 per month for an individual and $1,372 a month for couples. Applicants can also own no more than $2,000 in countable assets when applying as an individual and $3,000 when applying as a couple.

Seniors with income or assets that exceed the allowable Medicaid limits can spend down their excess income toward medical expenses, including assisted living care, using the Pay-In Spenddown option.

Note that Illinois does not permit the use of a Qualified Income Trust (Miller Trust).

Supportive Living Program

Low-income seniors 65 and older who meet the criteria for nursing home placement and who would prefer to live in an assisted living setting may qualify for assistance through the Illinois Supportive Living Program. This Medicaid program replaces the previous Home and Community-Based Services Supported Living Program waiver.

Under the SLP, seniors may be provided with additional services not normally covered through Medicaid, such as personal care, medication management, transportation assistance and a wearable personal emergency response system. SLP enrollees are responsible for the room-and-board portion of their assisted living costs, and they are allowed a $90 monthly personal needs budget.

Note that the SLP has lower income limits than general Medicaid coverage in Illinois. The maximum income for SLP participants is currently set at the maximum SSI monthly amount of $771 for a single applicant and $1,157 for a couple. Applicants must test negative for active tuberculosis and not be enrolled in any other Medicaid waiver programs.

Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Optional State Supplementation

The state provides all aged, blind and disabled Social Security Income recipients with a cash top-up known as an optional state supplement. For 2019, the maximum federal SSI payment is set at $771 for an individual and $1,157 for an eligible individual with a qualified spouse.

VA Aid and Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance

Veterans and survivors who receive a regular VA pension and have a disability or condition that significantly impacts their day-to-day functioning may qualify for a larger pension payment under the VA Aid and Attendance Benefits or the Housebound Allowance.

To qualify for the Housebound Allowance, applicants must be mostly restricted to their home as a result of a permanent disability.

To qualify for the Aid and Attendance Benefits, applicants must either live in a nursing home, need help from another person to perform activities of daily living, have a severe visual impairment or be bedridden.

Note that applicants cannot combine benefits from Aid and Attendance with the Housebound allowance, and veterans who already receive a VA disability pension are excluded from these benefits.
