We looked at Sunrise of Minnetonka, but we were less impressed with it. The location was difficult to get to and the parking area was not so big. The girl we met there only works part time in their sales office. I didn't think she knew her stuff, or she was just not a good speaker. The dining room was OK. It was on the smaller side, and the tables were cramped together.

My father-in law moved into Sunrise of Minnetonka. The care is OK. The room could be cleaner, but I think he is comfortable there, and that's the important thing. The staff is very nice, but he doesn't like the food. I haven't tasted it. He is in hospice care, and he watches a lot of sports on TV. There's a place right outside his room where the family can go play cards, and that's nice.

My mother ended up getting dehydrated at Sunrise of Minnetonka. They didn't take care of her very well. The staff was not very helpful at all. Even during the move-in time, nobody helped us whatsoever. When we got there, they did a really short assessment, and it was not very good at all. We liked her room. They had arts and flower arrangements. The place was good, but we felt limited because they would not give out any codes to the elevator. When we were trying to move in, we had to find somebody all the time to push a code into the elevator, so it was very inconvenient for us.

Meridian Manor was really nice and they're really good. If something was wrong they would take care of it and they fix it; they just went above and beyond. The atmosphere was good, and the location is easy to get to. Plus, they have nice parking and everything. My sister was just there temporarily, and they supplied her with dishes, towels, and made sure she had furniture. We didn't have to bring anything in, and they did everything for her. The staff members were really good. I met the service guy when my sister's thermostat wasn't working one day, but he came back after he left that night to fix it. She said that the people who helped her were really good as well. The place itself was really nice, and it was always clean and orderly.

The director of Sunrise of Minnetonka gave us the tour. They were very welcoming and friendly. Everything is good there. If I had to go into one of these places, I would consider going there. What we really liked about this community was that we got to talk to some of the residents who were very friendly and one was a Korean War veteran, which was the same as my mother's husband. There were a lot of things going on, so they can relate, talk, and socialize. It was a really good place. What I like about them compared to the other community we visited was that they can take you as you are now. When you get dementia or whatever, they put you in the memory care but allow your spouse to come with you to live in the same room.

I went to Rose Arbor & Wildflower Lodge. It's a beautiful place, and I'd love to go there one day if I couldn't handle independent living. They were very nice to me, and it's all built of log trees. It's in the middle of a forest, but it's right near the maple grove shopping complex, kind of west of it, and I found it to be OK. There's parking spaces there, there are a lot of trees around, it's pretty, and it feels secluded. The woman who was with me served me free lunch, and it was very good, she was very friendly, and I would give her a high rating. They have a singing group once a week, and movies, I believe. The meal area was very nice, and one of the people came up to me and said, "You'd love it here, it's a nice place." The food was fine, we got a dessert, beverage, and I think I had spaghetti and ice cream. I liked the food, and they offered me a salad, but I wasn't that hungry.

Sunrise of Minnetonka is wonderful and their staff is wonderful. We pulled in there unannounced one Sunday morning and asked if we could see the facility and they were gracious to see us. The lady there answered all our questions and gave us more information than we even thought about asking. The rooms were very clean, and when you move in, they're freshly repainted. The carpets were clean and the hallways were bright, light, and they have beautiful pictures on the wall. Theyve made the facilities look like what you would see in your grandmother's home, which is very impressive. The kitchen area is perfect and the ladies and gentlemen love it. They have a doctor who comes in when needed, and they're there twice a month, which is relieving and reassuring. They have a podiatrist who checks my mother-in-law's toenails. They have a beauty shop, a beautiful library, and three activity rooms. The neatest thing that they have is a bistro where they can get water and homemade cookies. They also have a beautiful garden where the people can go out, but it's all secure. It's just phenomenal. We had dinner with Mom when we first moved her in, and the food is incredible and served restaurant-style.

The Glenn Hopkins was very huge; it looked like a big castle. It has nine stories of independent living. It's a sturdy old building, but it's well built, so it was very good. They have a small button in the kitchen that you have to push every morning so they know that you're OK, so that was a very good thing. The Glenn Hopkins was called St. Therese at first, and then it sold out to The Glenn. Because I'm Catholic, I did like it to begin with because there were a few Catholic priests living there and they had very good services every morning. However, there was quite a difference when The Glenn took over. They tried to have every small activity going on at the same as the church programs, so you could feel that there was a difference, and that wasn't too great. I didn't think the food was that great either. They didn't have many amenities; they had very simple offerings.

My father-in-law was in Sunrise before he passed away. It's a very good place. We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the place, the caring of everybody, and the general involvement by the staff. It was a good experience for us, and a good experience for Dad. You can go fishing, and he joined in for Oktoberfest. The price maybe higher than some places, but you get your money's worth.
Go a bit further out to explore pricing and amenities.
