I visited this facility

Mari de Villa was very nice. They were very pleasant, and very helpful in guiding us around various units that were available. They have everything from a 1-bedroom to a 3-bedroom. There's nothing wrong with the units, except the cost structure. They were very expensive, and it wasn't a good fit for us. The financial aspect was very important for me. We saw the dining room and the physical fitness areas.

I visited this facility

Sunrise of Chesterfield was for a senior who needs more care than ours does. It was a little bit busy on the inside with lots of people and lots of sound. It's a busy home-like environment. I was there while they were doing construction. I did not meet any staff except for the one person that gave us the tour, but she was really nice, very informative, and seemed to know a lot about the process of moving a family member.

Care Cost Comparison

Senior care services can vary depending on the location and type of care required. In Chesterfield, the cost of nursing care in a semiprivate room is almost $1,800 more than a room in an assisted living facility. In-home services, such as a homemaker and home health aide, are about $700-$800 less than assisted living care and don’t include living expenses, such as rent, food or utilities, which residential facilities typically do. These types of cost comparisons should be taken into account when deciding what kind of care is best for a senior’s situation.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Chesterfield

Medicaid in Missouri

Medicaid in Missouri is named MO HealthNet and is available to residents who meet low-income requirements. It helps pay for qualified medical services, including inpatient, outpatient and emergency care, prescriptions, laboratory work, ambulance transport and residential care.

Seniors in Missouri automatically qualify for Medicaid if they’re considered disabled by the Social Security Administration or the state of Missouri. They can receive Medicare and Medicaid benefits simultaneously; in this situation, medical providers consider Medicare the primary insurer and Medicaid as a secondary insurer. This is helpful for covering gaps in insurance coverage when a senior is waiting for approval of Medicare benefits.

To be eligible for MO Healthnet, seniors must:

  • Be a resident of Missouri
  • Be disabled, blind or at least 65 years of age
  • Be a United States citizen or an eligible qualified noncitizen
  • Have a net income less than $834 per month for an individual or $1,129 for a couple
  • Own nonexempt resources with a value of less than $2,000 if single or $4,000 if married and living with their spouse

More information on this program is available by calling the Family Support Division Information Center at (855) 373-4636. Seniors can apply for MO HealthNet by visiting the MyDSS website or visiting the Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Services Office at 4116 McClay Rd., St. Charles, MO, 63301.
