My aunt has been living at The Homestead in Boulder City for a year now, and she is very happy living there. She loves the staff members and other residents who all look after each other like a family. She believes it\'s the best kept secret \"over the hill\" from Las Vegas. They\'ve recently changed their status to just a 55+ senior community, and no longer have assissted living. I would highly recommend The Homestead as a great place to live based on my aunt\'s experience there.

Lakeview Terrace of Boulder City was a bad fit for me. It's small, did not have the outside grounds, and trying to get anywhere was a real pain. Transportation was limited, and I was one of the youngest people there, so I didn't feel nearly as comfortable. The apartment was OK, but assisted living was a wrong choice for me. I'm not in need of that kind of help at this point, and I'm not in the same situation that most of the people there are in. They work very hard at what they do and they do a lot of things right. I was unhappy with the meals and the people in the dining room, but they had good maintenance, housekeeping, and nursing staff. The facility looked nice, and it's kept clean.

My mother is in the memory care unit of Lakeview Terrace of Boulder City. The staff members are very good with taking care of her, have a lot of understanding, and I can't say how wonderful they are. My mom lost her dentures, and while waiting for new ones, they helped her with getting smaller food for her to eat so she won't have to chew. I have eaten there a couple of times, and the food is good. The housekeeping is very good. They have a new, excellent activities director, who has ideas galore to help the people get up and moving.

I toured lakeview Terrace. It was very clean, very upscale, and it didn't feel like a nursing home. The people at the front desk were very friendly, and the lady I met was very nice, and very informative. They were doing exercise classes in an event room, and they have a separate cafeteria. I thought the price was very reasonable compared to other places.

Assisted Living Costs in Boulder City
The average monthly price for assisted living in Boulder City is about $300 lower than the state median of $3,500 and more than $800 below the national average of $4,000. Local seniors also pay substantially less than their counterparts in other Nevada communities such as Reno ($4,000) and Carson City ($4,500). The rate in nearby St. George, Utah, is on par with the Nevada state average and also over $300 more expensive than the monthly cost in Boulder City.

Care Cost Comparison
Senior care costs are affected by factors beyond geographic location. The type of care, setting and included services all play a role in the cost of care options in Boulder City and other communities across the country. Nursing homes that provide around-the-clock skilled care charge more than double the rate of assisted living facilities, even though both options offer accommodations and meals. Homemaker and home health aide services in a senior’s private home are about $800 to $1,000 more expensive than assisted living. The true price difference ends up much higher when the value of food and housing is factored in. Rates for in-home senior care strictly cover hours of service provided, so food and household operating costs are extra expenses. These expenses are typically covered by assisted living room and board.

Medicaid in Nevada
Medicaid is the government-run national medical insurance program that provides low-cost or free health care services to eligible Americans with limited income and resources. The jointly funded program is regulated at the federal level and administered by each state.
The Nevada Medicaid program provides coverage for over half a million state residents, including families with dependent children, pregnant women, disabled and blind adults and the elderly. Those who qualify receive a wide range of health care benefits, including:
- Doctor and specialist visits
- Emergency care
- Inpatient and outpatient hospital services
- Prescription drugs
- Lab tests and X-rays
- Private-duty nursing care
- Ambulance and nonemergency medical transportation
- Nursing home care
Qualifying for Nevada Medicaid for Long-Term Care
Boulder City residents aged 65 and older and disabled or blind adults aged 64 or younger can qualify for medical and long-term care services through Nevada Medicaid if they’re U.S. citizens or legal aliens and meet income and assets guidelines of:
- $2,313 or less in monthly income and $2,000 in countable assets for single applicants
- $4,626 or less in monthly income and $4,000 in countable assets for couples applying together
Community Spouse Income and Asset Exemptions
If one spouse of a married couple applies, only the applicant’s income counts toward the above limit. Up to $3,160.50 of their monthly income may be transferable to the non-applicant, who may also retain up to $126,420 of the couple’s joint assets according to Medicaid’s rules to prevent spousal impoverishment.
After they account for these living and resource allowances, applicants who were previously over the Medicaid eligibility limits may qualify for coverage.
Nevada Medicaid considers income from all sources when determining eligibility but disregards several assets, including:
- One automobile
- An owner-occupied home valued up to $585,000
- Household effects
- Irrevocable burial trusts
- Personal belongings
Boulder City residents can complete an application online for Medicaid coverage or call (800) 992-0900 for more information or application assistance.
Nevada Medicaid Frail Elderly Waiver Program

Applicants must be assessed as needing a nursing-home level of care and require placement within 30 days if assistance isn’t available. The waiver covers necessary support services that can help an applicant remain at home or in community-based care settings such as assisted living facilities.
Approved applicants receive case management services and additional supports such as:
- Adult residential care services
- Respite care
- Personal emergency response systems
- Augmented personal care services
