Discover a new way to embrace independence in a supportive community for seniors at Heritage of Clara Barton. Our pet-friendly assisted and independent living community is conveniently located in the historic section of Clara Barton in Edison, NJ. The community is situated in a school building that was constructed in 1921 and was beautifully renovated to include 84 spacious assisted living apartments and 27 independent living apartments.
Heritage of Clara Barton offers a warm, home-like atmosphere where residents live among friends and neighbors. Seniors will have around-the-clock support and the assistance needed to feel inspired and encouraged to practice independence at their pace.
We promote family time and encourage the family members of our residents to stay in close communication with their loved ones, to send mail, and to visit often. It means so much to the residents. We also make a point to stay in good communication with families and update them with any necessary information.

At Heritage of Clara Barton, we offer just that with a personalized program that has move-in days, birthdays and holidays covered— and “just because” days, too. You can choose from a wide variety of group activities. Everything from games to exercise classes to happy hours are offered. Our residents are encouraged to take part in activities right away. Choose two or three programs to attend early on – it’s a great way to meet your neighbors. Making acquaintances and friends can make a new residence feel like home and we always encourage our extended families to participate. Resident Counsel, run by the residents, creates the ability for input and decision making regarding social activities, food ideas and overall functions of the building.

Heritage of Clara Barton is very large and very nice; however, it is very spread out. My only negative is that it is just so big, it is a lot of walking for people who are elderly. For younger and more active seniors, it is very good. It is in a nice environment where you can walk in the town and they have some restaurants that you can walk to. It is really fine, but it is an older facility than what I was looking for and a little more spread out. The rooms were big, bright and very nice.

We thank you for the kind words and we recognize the size of our building can be overwhelming for some. Nevertheless, the residents who have chosen Clara Barton as their home are grateful for the amount of space they could not find in other buildings. While our apartments are larger than most, our price is not! As for being an older facility, yes our building was built in 1921 and has become a staple in the community!

My mother-in-law has moved into Heritage of Clara Barton. I like the layout, and the appearance is really very nice. She has a lovely little one-bedroom. The rooms are not overly large, but I didn't expect them to be given what the place is. The staff certainly has been very friendly, very nice, and very helpful. They seem to have all kinds of options for my mother-in-law if she wants to avail herself of them. She can certainly go out on little independent trips, and she can take car rides on her own. There are lots of options for this location.
