My mom is in LaurelHurst & LaurelWoods. We went with it because it's like a hotel, and everything is inside. She's almost 80, and it's nice having a place that's like a hotel. We're very happy with the care. We like it a lot. They go out to a couple of different grocery stores three times a week, and have Bible study and exercise classes. The staff is very good, and the people seem very nice. The food is very good, and she likes it.

I like the individual cottages at LaurelHurst. They're very attractive with their attached garages. There are 1- or 2-bedroom units that are available too. I saw their dining room. It was like a very nice restaurant and the silverware was already placed. It was very well done. The staff who was with me was very knowledgeable. She took us to different buildings so we could see the single-bedroom versus the 2-bedroom units. She also showed us the greater room where residents have the ability to play cards and have a meeting. The facilities were very good. I thought they seemed to have everything you needed, no matter what your interests might be. They did a nice job.

The woman who showed us around and gave us a tour of LaurelHurst & LaurelWoods was very pleasant and answered our questions, but the rooms were too small. It's not exactly what we were looking for. There was no dining area whatsoever. They have three meals a day, but occasionally we might want to sit down and have a meal of our own in our room, and there's no place at all for a table and chairs. We went up in the elevator to the second floor and I felt like I was in a hospital. It was a long hallway with all these closed doors up and down both sides. It didn't have a homey feeling. I suggest they make it a little more colourful and a little homier looking. They clean your apartment. They have some activities and entertainment. The people we saw were very pleasant, very helpful, and nice.

My mother-in-law moved into LaurelHurst in November. It's very good and expensive, but it is better than where she was living in Durham. The staff members are very nice, polite, and welcoming. They did a very good job decorating for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The dining area is very good. I have not eaten there, but my mother-in-law said some meals are better than others. They don't make the meals on-site; they bring them in. They have an activities director and activities posted in the elevator, in the cafeteria, and at the mailbox. My mother-in-law doesn't go to all activities, but she is going to more.

LaurelHurst was a great place. Everybody was fun and I liked it. The place was very attractive, the rooms were large, and it was very nice.

LaurelHurst was very clean, very nice, and very well organized. I liked everything about it, and it had everything that we would need. The resident I met was very congenial. The manager was very helpful and I enjoyed him very much. He knew what he was doing and he answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. They had planned activities available for residents as well as transportation.
