StoryPoint Troy was very nice. The staff who gave me the tour was very helpful and good. They had two dining areas; one was more formal and the other one was like a cafeteria and not as elegant as the other one. They had a hair salon, exercise place, library, movie room, and craft room. We saw different room layouts. The place was very nice.

Our 86 year old mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had reached the point of being unable to continue living independently. So, we viewed two places and decided on StoryPoint in Troy. It is a beautiful facility and the staff were friendly, if not plentiful. In the interview, we were assured that our mother would receive superior care. We were candid in our information on the care our mother would require and that it would need to escalate as her cancer progressed. We were assured that StoryPoint staff were capable of caring for our mother up to the end of life. That was definitely not true. The care she required after arrival quickly escalated and as it was a weekend, there was not enough staff accommodate her needs. And in fact, she died 8 days after arrival. If you or your parent are considering this facility you will find it new, beautifully appointed with excellent food and activities. But, there is minimal care available and they maintain a skeletal staff on weekends. Even in the assisted living section of StoryPoint, significant independence is still necessary to advocate for by the resident. The staff are friendly and kind, but there are certainly not enough there to maintain anything but minimal care and assistance. As well, we paid $6800 for 8 days at StoryPoint and if we had not objected, they would have charged us for another month's care as they actually require a month notice to move out, even upon death. We would strongly recommend others to look more closely than we did and insure that the facility you are considering actually can supply the type of care required for you or your loved one in the present and future.
